Kirk’s Mambo grabs victory in Galt House Stake

Kirk’s Mambo broke out of his short slump in a big way, soundly defeating a good field in this week’s Galt House Stakes. He notched a 102.0 speed figure, his career best by a good margin. The win nearly doubled his career earnings, bringing him to a figure of $73075 in his fourteen career starts. The win also catapulted him to a rank of 169 in the Older Turf Long division. At just fourteen starts, this colt has a lot of racing left in front of him, and if he can keep running like this, he’s in for a very successful career. Lucky ticket holders were laughing all the way to the betting window, with the longshot victor paying $29.00 $12.60 $8.70 across the board. If they bet the exotics, they were even happier, with a $122.40 payout in the exacta and a $673.50 trifecta payout.

Barb’s Snack(IRE) set the early pace, with Prized Indy and Tassominator G(IRE) forcing the early pace. Barb’s Snack(IRE) only managed to open up only a half length at the halfway post, and that wasn’t going to be nearly enough. Prized Indy made a move at the half, sailing past the flagging leader to take a short lived lead as they moved into the second half of the race. Sitting just off the pace, Kirk’s Mambo took over between the nine and ten furlong mark, and never looked back. Many of the closers never fired, and Kirk’s Mambo had clear sailing down the stretch. Race favorite An Urban Legend closed eleven lengths in the second half, from nearly fifteen lengths out at the half post to make the closest challenge to the winner, taking second place, three and a quarter out. Prized Indy showed some stamina, holding on to third place, six and three quarters out at the wire.
