Fly Higher(IRE) captures win in Prophetic Blade Special

Flyer Higher(IRE) got all the cushion she needed and then some to capture this week’s Prophetic Blade Special. This was the filly’s first stakes win, and her third overall in her eight race career. The win takes her career earnings mark to $66602 or just over 8.3K per race. It also moves her to a rank of 155 in the turf classic division with her tenth stakes point. Oddsmakers were right on the money in this one, with the field finishing in order of their final odds. This made for minimal payouts at the betting window, with the winner paying $4.40 $2.50 $2.10 across the board. Exotic payouts were even slimmer, with the exacta generating only a $9.90 payout, and a payout of $15.40 in the trifecta.

Fly Higher(IRE) took charge from the gate, breaking to the early lead pretty much unchallenged. The field had spread out a bit by the first call, and as they crossed the half, Fly Higher(IRE) was holding a four length lead, and it would prove to be more than enough as they headed down the back side. As they crossed into the stretch she was still holding three and a quarter lengths, forcing the closers to generate more speed to try to catch her. They made a run at the leader late, with Iambe(IRE) managing to pick up nearly a length late, but there was just too much lead and not enough stretch. Fly Higher(IRE) crossed the wire two and a quarter lengths ahead of second place Iambe(IRE). Buckeye Beauty(KY) hung tough to hold on to third pace, three lengths out at the wire.
