Grade II / Group 2*CPU – Purse : $375,000 – 4 Years and Older, Fillies and Mares
14 Furlongs | ~2800 Meters | One Mile and Three Quarters Fast Dirt
.

.
We go across the Pacific to Seoul, South Korea for this year’s rendition of the Group 2 marathon event, The Old Lady. Contested at ~2800 meters (or 14 furlongs for the metrically declined), a dozen older fillies and mares will look to outlast the others for the winner’s share of the $375,000 purse on tap, and to collect the accolades at the trophy presentation ceremony following the race.
.
The field is led by multimillionaire favorite Unbridled Logic, fresh off a 2016 Eclipse Award for older dirt long female. She also looks for a repeat victory in this event, which propelled her to her championship season last year. She faces G1 winning millionaire Elite Titleist, and G1 winner Perfect Metzli. G2 winner Royal Blessing comes up as the co-second choice, with four other stakes winners looking for the upset. Let’s take a closer look at them in post position order and see how they compare.

UNBRIDLED LOGIC KY 5F flagdown4 D Evans 3/1
.
Roan five year old mare took this contest last year with a powerful late kick to win going away. She closed out her 2016 championship campaign with an easy score in the G1 The Empire State Slayer at this route, rocking a 109 SP#. In her previous outing, this scratch bred Malibu Moon miss (by Unbridled’s Song) was a solid 2nd against the boys in the G1 Breeders’ Bowl Dirt Marathon, also at this trip, ripping a 117 SP# with today’s main opponent Elite Titleist a dozen lengths back of her. Her prior try was a runaway victory in the G1 The Great Dane at this distance, romping to a 110 SP# from way back in the pack. Owner/trainer flagdown4 looks for history to repeat itself; well deserving morning line favorite will take beating in this spot.

DARK SPRINGS ENG 4F millview20 P Chamberlin 49/1
.
Currently sporting a nine race losing streak since breaking her maiden is this bay four year old filly, who exits a distant 5th in a NW3x allowance at two miles, lasting for an 87 SP#. Nathaniel nipper, based on the sim he-mare Distorted Darkness (by Distorted Humor) closed for 5th in a NW4L allowance at 12 furlongs one before that, lucking into a 96 SP# while never a threat. One back of that she was a gaining 3rd in a NW2L allowance at 13 panels, landing a 92 SP#. Seems seriously outclassed here for trainer millview20; handicapper has it about right.

POINT TO THE HAWK KY 5F deeprock53 L Slater 38/1
.
Hailing from the deeprock53 mega stable is this light grey five year old mare, who comes off a 21 length thrashing in the G1 The Saturday Night Girl at two miles, etching a 92 SP# while never in it. Point Of Entry princess, out of the G1 winning, million dollar earning sim mare Song Of The Hawk (by Unbridled’s Song) was soundly beaten one back of that in the G2 The Rocky Top Oaks, also at two miles, eking out an 84 SP#. She finished 25 lengths behind Unbridled Logic in her prior start in the G1 The Great Dane at this distance, earning a 94 SP#. Another outsider who will likely watch most of them cross the finish line before her.

BUBBA KUSH IRE 4F baff2014d C Wyatt 8/1
.
Scratch bred Sea The Stars swifty (by Sadler’s Wells) makes her grade/group debut after a wire to wire romp in the Lakunza listed stakes at this route, bashing a 105 SP# in her first try against older. One back of that, bay four year old filly settled for 4th after getting the lead entering the stretch in the Point Delivered listed at 9 panels, bagging a 105 SP# in a stalking run. In her previous outing she ran off to an easy win in an open allowance at 10 furlongs, banking a 109 SP#. Runner from the baf2014d racing operation should have company on the front end here, but could hang on for a minor share if allowed an uncontested early lead.

ROCK YOUR WELLS IRE 4F graywolf19 Ro Jenkins 39/1
.
Stretching out a half mile farther than she’s ever run in 22 starts, this bay four year old filly exits a back pedaling 4th in a NW3L allowance at 9.5 furlongs, gaining a 96 SP# after setting all the early pace. Rock Of Gibraltar ruby, out of the graded placed sim mare Your Trips (by Sadler’s Wells) tired to 5th at 7 panels one back of that in a local bred allowance, getting an 80 SP#. Her previous run was a tiring 4th in a local bred allowance at a mile, grabbing a 90 SP# after setting the early fractions. Graywolf19 trainee may be an early pace factor but unlikely to be in the picture entering the stretch.

.

She’s three for three at twelve furlongs and beyond and may be along late for a minor share; handicapper likes her chances making her the co-second choice on the morning line.

ROYAL BLESSING KY 5F equistable J Cox 5/1
.
Royally bred runner romped in her dirt debut in 2017 opener, an open allowance at 13 furlongs, snaring a 98 SP# in a daylight victory off a nine week freshening. Giant’s Causeway gal, out of the Hall Of Fame sim mare Magniforma (by Galileo by Dynaformer) tired badly to 13th one back of that in the G1 The Millwood Cup at two miles on the weeds, snagging a 103 SP# in a just off the pace trip. Bay five year old mare wired the G2 Brake Hill Stakes at this distance in her previous try, smashing a 115 SP# in an easy score. Equistable protege can get the distance, could get the jump on the late comers down the lane; handicapper makes her the co-second choice on the morning line.

ELITE TITLEIST KY 5F elitegrs A Brady 6/1
.
Our other millionaire earner has been unable to cope with favored Unbridled Logic in previous meetings. Bay five year old mare exits a so-so 5th behind Perfect Metzli in the G1 The Saturday Night Girl at two miles in her 2016 finale, catching a 99 SP# as the second choice. One before that, scratch bred Street Sense senora (by Unfuwain) was a well beaten 6th in the G1 Breeders’ Bowl Dirt Marathon against the fellas, casting a 108 SP# while a dozen lengths back of Unbridled Logic. In her prior start she romped by 7+ lengths in the G1 The Scottsdale Stayer at two miles, cashing a 109 SP#. Runner from the elitegrs stable will need her best effort to turn the tables on her chief nemesis; she’s never won at this distance.

THECATANDTHEFIDDLE KY 5F wetfast R Wilhite 7/1
.
Owner/trainer wetfast sends out this light grey five year old mare off a dull 6th behind others in here in the G1 The Saturday Night Girl at two miles, flipping a 97 SP# without making an impact. Kitten’s Joy kutie, based on the stakes winning sim he-mare Viol (by Street Cry) was a gaining 2nd one back of that in the G2 The Radiant at this route, flashing a 106 SP# in a mid pack run. She showed some late foot to get 6th in her prior outing in the G3 Victory Marathon, also at this trip, flinging a 104 SP# from well back in the pack. In and outer is due to be in this time around but is oh for four at this distance; handicapper gives her a shot at 7/1 on the morning line.

PERFECT MEZTLI KY 5F jaka4 M Cameron 11/1
.
Pleasantly Perfect prancer, out of the G1 winning, million dollar earning sim mare Sacrilege (by A.P. Indy) ran off with the two mile, G1 The Saturday Night Girl last time over, slashing a 104 SP# prompting the pace. Bay five year old mare took the G3 Victory Marathon at this route one before that, smoking a 108 SP# stalking the early leaders. A four race win skein came to an end when she tired badly to 6th in the G3 The Saint Paul at two miles, slinging a 98 SP# while prominent early. Speedster should be an early pace factor, could get away from the deep closers with a shrew jockey ride for the jaka4 barn.
