Preview for the Monmouth Czar Challenge in Denmark

Welcome to the preview for the third running of the Monmouth Czar Challenge stakes in Denmark, worth a prize purse of $70,000.  Another small, yet competitive field will assemble on Saturday with a nice mix of running styles on display, it should make for an entertaining event.

PP1 SLEW GULCH ID#52089 ace3 6/1
The best SP#s from this 4yo son of Gulch in recent times have been over this distance, so trainer, ace3, will be hoping for a bit of improvement here.  Hasn’t topped a 100SP in his last 6 starts, and hasn’t finished ITM at any of his three previous runs, all in listed stakes.  Should be thereabouts, but would need to be at his top beat a few of these.

PP2 CONSTANT BLUR (IRE) ID#55001 mr101 17/1
The outsider of the field has been through a busy campaign, and lines up here for his fourth start in 8 weeks.  Was in top form in Claimers before he switched to stakes and has struggled a little.  Ideally would like to be up on the speed, but meets some quick ones here, and will be against it this time.

PP3 UNAVAILABLE ID#20032 lenny6 3/1
Has been very impressive of late, winning his last 3, including last start’s The PAL LISTEN Stakes in an SP#104.  Put together 4 wins in a row in the middle of last year and is a good chance to do it again here.  Enjoys sitting back on the leader’s back and running home over the top of them, and with the form he’s been showing lately, he will be very hard to beat.

PP4 CALL THE SHOTS ID#90872 devry 9/5
Odds on favourite who rarely runs a bad race, only missing the board once in his last 7.  Was placed in the Nasty N’ Bold Handicap LTO with an SP#102. Has over half a million in prizemoney and classy jockey, M Sheridan (19%) in the saddle.  Will be prominant throughout and give a great show.

PP5 AVANTI HOLLANDIA ID#89325 leilani 3/1
Finally had his 8 win streak broken last time when run down in the Fort Delaware Cap.  Before that, he was unbeatable leading fields from gate to wire in a bold front running style.  Once again, he is the likely leader here, and won’t be easy to catch.  His recent SP#s have been solid rather than brilliant, but as shown by his record, he seems to find something extra when required to get home first.  Great chance.

PP6 SMOULDERING STREET ID#61653 magoo2912 7/2
Found the Grade 1 a bit beyond him when finished 13th in the Sand Castle Golden Sprint.  Back to a more reasonable class here, and at his best, will be a big threat.  Has been given 4 weeks rest and has in form jockey, B Schaiden (21%) on board.  Look for a bit improvement from this 7yo veteran, as he is due for a return to the winners’s circle soon.

In summary, the outside 4 gates look to have it over the inside 2, so expect the trifecta to come from out wide.  Difficult to pick one over the others, so probably a good idea to stay away from wagering any money on this race.
