The Mob Moll Stakes; Listen Up, Youse Guys
Okay, youse guys. There was this dame horse once, see? Her name was Mob Moll. She wasn’t always the fastest horse in the race, and sometimes even when she was, certain things would occasionally happen whereby a longshot some wiseguys liked would win.
Certain friends of friends appreciate favors done, and so we have this nice race named after that nice horse.
For the third year in a row it’s attracted a very nice field of fillies, and I know a guy who knows a guy who assures me this race totally legit. Capisce?
I got a friend to look at the horses:
PP1. MAGNIFICIENT WORLD(JPN) (AGNES WORLD x MR. PROSPECTOR x
After being patiently taken though her conditions by an expert barn, she tried stakes level for the first time last outing. She was fourth against a field that included six stakes winners. The experience should do her good, and she shortens up slightly to her favorite distance. She has the second fastest speed figure at seven furlongs here.
PP2. XTRA DEEP INSIDE(KY) (SMARTY JONES x DUBAI MILLENNIUM (GB) x ALYDAR) bred and trained by EJDStable (26%) Odds: 5-1
Color me Xtremely surprised to see the return of this stable, though not at all surprised to see that the return has been Xtremely successful. This filly is two for three against large fields and steps up to stakes for the first time. She got off to a huge early lead last time; she should encounter some pressure today.
PP3. CHASING THE WIND(KY) (UNBRIDLED’S SONG x KINGMAMBO x STORM CAT) bred and trained by Farm304 (16%) Odds: 5-2
Earned a top twenty rating mostly on her performance as a two year old. But with a second in the Grade II Yanta Snez at this distance, she deserves her status as favorite, and she has a decided class edge on the field. Her last race is cause for concern – it’s not a good thing to see them run slower at three than at two. It’s her only failure and it’s hardly time to write her off by any means. She still gets a dominant jockey and gets her favorite distance.
PP4. THE TIME PROPHET(KY) (GILDED TIME x OPEN FORUM x MR. PROSPECTOR) bred and trained by Sighclone (11%) Odds: 6-1
With seven in-the-money finished in nine starts and after exhausting her conditions, she makes the reasonable step up to stakes. She is clearly getting faster as a three year old, and it seems she will like the extra half-furlong. She may even like longer, though in the Sim, sire’s progeny have been exclusively sprinters. She fits with these; don’t ignore.
PP5. SUPER ZAPPER(KY) (AWESOME AGAIN x UNBRIDLED x MR. PROSPECTOR) bred and trained by Super13 (15%) Odds: 7-1
She’s been showing steady, even dramatic, improvement in her last few races. Still lightly raced, that’s often a potent signal. Was closing on lone speed horse late last time but could not catch her. She may get some help chasing early speed here. You know it’s a deep field at this level if this one is the longest shot on the board.
PP6.
The only blemish in her record is a decent fourth in a Grade III race at a route. Perfect record at this distance and class, so naturally we look for negatives. Her best win came against restricted company, and her last win was against a weaker field. Finally, though her speed figures are competitive here, they have not been improving. Did I mention she has a perfect record against this distance and class?
PP7. KINETIC ENERGY(KY) (UNBRIDLED’S SONG x TALE OF THE CAT x GONE WEST) bred by Yunkai; trained by WFStables6 (11%) Odds: 5-1
Filly comes here off of three straight route wins. She shortens up as she steps up in class. Tough to say how she’s handle either change, much less both. Of course that doesn’t mean she can’t handle them. Because she made a substantial improvement when she followed her sprint debut with a route try, I am going to guess she’d prefer to make her stakes debut at two turns.
Summary
So, did all that talk make sense to youse guys? I gotta say a lotta it didn’t sound so good to me. Here’s what I’m gonna do: I’m bettin’ Chasing The Wind.
