Bargain News 2594

Welcome to the Bargain news. I hope to bring an interesting twist, and possibly a little more attention to bargain bred runners in both real life and sim life. For the next few weeks I will be featuring one bargain bred great from the past.

This week’s bargain great is Charlie’s Tiger bred and run by well known sim trainer Nickesyd.

Charlie’s Tiger  #27178 (retired)  39 – 5 – 5 – 3  $543,153

(Lord Tiger X Proclaim X Bold Dash)

Charlie’s Tiger was one of only two mares submitted. In thirty-nine races she had five wins, five places, and three shows. She earned over five hundred thousand. She is what one might call a flash in the pan but oh what a flash it was. She won on debut. Then she went right into stakes company with a win. She was then switched to turf for a grade I try in her third career start and was not horrible finishing fourth.

She then finished second in a grade II and third in a grade III. Charlie’s Tiger was a little flat next time out finishing third in a listed stakes. At this point she was nominated and selected to compete in the Winning Colors Challenge a grade I in the Equinics. She won going wire to wire earning her one and only grade I victory. She followed that up two weeks later with a listed stakes win. That would be the last stakes win of her career.

She would go on to compete in many graded races and placed in a few more stakes but never achieved the same success she had found in her first eight races. She was the first horse bred by long time sim player Nickesyd. Nickesyd had this to say “it was a great feeling my first grade I win and after only half a year in the game. She only won one more stakes race and one more allowance win but she really had her best day when I wanted her to.”

Real Life Bargain Racing News!

In last weeks big races here in America our bargain bred runner did ok. Lava Man ran a very solid race in the Pacific Classic. It was a very close race with only about three quarters of a length separating the top four finishers. Lava Man (Slew City Slew) finished third and looks on track to compete in the Breeder’s Cup Classic.

The other Slew City Slew runner, Sis , City, did not fair very well in the Alabama at Saratoga Race Course. She was a well beaten fourth after setting the pace on a track labeled good.

Lost in the Fog takes the Bargain spot light this week as an overwhelming favorite in the grade I King’s Bishop to be run this Saturday at Saratoga. He is a perfect eight for eight and faces an almost un winnable situation. Even if he wins doubters will talk about the lack of quality horses he has faced this year. You actually have a solid group of runners that include runners by Storm Cat, Fusaichi Pegasus, Jules, and Valid Expectations. Ironically the likely second betting choice is another bargain bred named Santana Strings (Wheaton X Prospectors Gamble X Pursuit).

Bellamy Road opted not to face Lost in the Fog and went for the easier race of the day the grade I Travers stakes. He faces an interesting field of three year olds and has a chance to prove his big run in the Wood Memorial was not a fluke. Other runners in the Travers are Flower Alley, Roman Ruler, Chekhov, Reverberate, Don’t Get Mad and Andormeda’s Hero.
