The More Glare Stakes G1
Ireland plays host to fourteen two year old fillies looking for grade one glory in the More Glare Stakes. The race will be run over seven furlongs on a firm turf course for a purse of $750,000. There are two graded winners in the field, grade three winner Rabinet and grade one winner Lady Attica but there are some talented fillies in the group looking to challenge those two. Indeed even with their graded experience neither of those fillies is favored. That honor goes to the lightly race Warpain. Let’s take a look at the field.
#1 Dark Be My Brush 27/1
Dark Be My Brush is a daughter of Novellist out of the graded placed, stakes winning Manila x Broad Brush mare Maadly. This is the mare’s first allowance winner from five foals. Dark Be My Brush has two wins and a second from five career starts. All three of her in the money performances have come in her last three starts which were run at distances between four and one half furlongs to five and one half furlongs so this will be a bit of a distance increase for her. She’s shown early speed in each of those last three races but she hasn’t shown the overall speed in those races that some of her opponents here have shown, hence the longer odds.
#2 King’s Navigator 13/1
King’s Navigator is a daughter of Henrythenavigator out of the grade one winning King of Kings x Seattle Slew mare Eaaaxmasgift. Eaaaxmasgift earned her stripes going a mile and one quarter on the turf. She has produced one stakes winner and three stakes placed runners (including King’s Navigator) from seven foals. King’s Navigator has actually run second in two listed races, both run a five furlongs. She broke her maiden in her debut going five and one half furlongs back in February. Her only off the board finish came at five furlongs in a grade two, two starts back. In that race she did not show the early speed she has shown in her more successful outings.
#3 Warpain 5/1
Warpain is a daughter of War Front out of the grade three winning A.P. Indy x In Reality mare Manilla Pain. Manilla Pain was strictly a dirt runner who was a stakes winner at distances ranging from six and one half furlongs to a mile and one sixteenth. She has produced fifteen foals so far including two grade three winners and five additional stakes winners. Manilla Pain turned twenty this year so Warpain is her final foal. Warpain has won her last two starts in a row after finishing second in her debut back in May. Her most recent race came in an allowance going seven furlongs in which she started next to last but closed furiously to win by one half length with an 80 speed.
#4 Taken Wounded 8/1
Taken Wounded is a daughter of Kodiac out of the Smart Strike x End Sweep mare Aninjurytoall. Aninjurytoall has produced eleven foals of which four are stakes winners. Taken Wounded may be the best foal yet for the mare. She broke her maiden in an allowance race and jumped straight into stakes company winning a listed at five furlongs. She followed that up with a third place finish in a grade two and most recently she stretched out to a mile for the first time, running second in the Grade One Wet Bikini Stakes. In her last two starts Taken Wounded has been pretty far back early on before closing with a rush. Her first three starts saw her sit much closer to the front early on.
#5 Pumpkin Power 8/1
Pumpkin Power is a daughter of Kingman out of the Special Week x Unbridled mare Special Pumpkin. This is the mare’s first foal. Pumpkin Power broke her maiden in her debut at five furlongs back in April. She followed that up with a photo-finish loss in a listed stakes at five and one half furlongs before being well beaten in a grade three at seven furlongs. She is another filly who drops pretty far off the pace before coming with one late rush.
#6 Soul City Please 14/1
Soul City Please is a daughter of Soul City out of a Polish Numbers x Majestic Light mare. From seven other foals she has one stakes placed offspring. Soul City Please is not only stakes placed but she is grade three placed on both dirt and turf. She made her first two starts in claiming company and her third start in a starter allowance, all on turf and all winning efforts. After her third win she was entered in the Grade Three Unusual Circumstances Juvenile at four and one half furlongs on dirt where she was third. After an off the board finish in another dirt grade three she moved back to turf where she was third in a listed and most recently second in a grade three at seven furlongs.
#7 Rabinet 7/1
Rabinet is a daughter of Hawk Wing out of the Oasis Dream x Candy Stripes mare Twenty Two Caliber. She is the first stakes winner for her dam from five foals. Rabinet broke her maiden going six and one half furlongs in April and immediately won a listed stakes in her next start. She was fourth in two graded attempts at six furlongs and most recently won the Grade Three Calvados Stakes at seven furlongs with an 85 speed. She was next to last early on in that race before closing from twelfth at the top of the stretch to win by three quarters of a length.
#8 Lady Attica 7/1
Lady Attica is a scratchbred daughter of Excelebration x El Prado x Red Ransom. She exits a win in the Grade One Wet Bikini Stakes going one mile which she won with an 87 speed. That was her second stakes win, having taken a listed at five furlongs back in April. In between those two starts she was second by one half length in a residency restricted listed and then was fifth in a grade three. She has good stalking speed but the big question will be how she does dropping back in distance.
#9 Pivotal Thing 8/1
Pivotal Thing is a daughter of Pivotal out of the Medaglia D’oro x Distorted Humor mare The Biggest Thing. This is the mare’s first foal but The Biggest Thing is a half sister to two grade three winners. Pivotal Thing only has two wins from six starts but she has been competing well at top levels. One of those wins was a listed stakes going six and one half furlongs, she also has a third place finish in another listed at the same distance. Most recently she was a well beaten third in the Grade One Wet Bikini behind Lady Attica. She did run a career best 78 speed that day. Her two winning races saw her compete near the front early on and with so little speed in this race she may be closer than she was in the Wet Bikini.
#10 Stressing Details 8/1
Stressing Details is a daughter of English Channel out of the grade one winning Sea the Stars x Storm Cat mare The Bee’s Knees. The Bee’s Knees has produced three foals to race of which the eldest is a stakes winner. Stressing Details only has three starts under her belt but she’s won the last two. She was second in her debut at five furlongs but was only beaten three quarters of a length for the win after running ninth early on. In fact she been ninth at the first call in all three of her races (which featured fields of eleven, thirteen and fourteen) and she has closed well in each of those races although she has never won by more than a length.
#11 Peace of O’Reilly 14/1
Peace of O’Reilly is a daughter of Quest For Peace based on the stakes winning O’Reilly x Hussonet hemare Tirau O’Reilly. She has made fewer starts than anyone else in the race with just two but both of them were winning efforts. Both races came on the turf against Irish local bred competition. The first race came at six and one half furlongs where she ran a 73 speed and then her follow up race was at five furlongs where she ran a 74 speed. She is another with a touch of early speed but has not shown a need for the lead.
#12 Chasca Kylla 9/1
Chasca Kylla is a daughter of Kyllachy out of the Elusive Quality x Diesis mare Akna Quality. This is the mare’s second foal and first stakes winner. Chasca Kylla has won three of four starts after finishing third in her debut. That race came on the dirt and the three subsequent starts came on the turf. Her races have steadily increased in distance, going in sixteenth of a mile increments from five furlongs to six and one half furlongs. She’s run a 78 speed in her two previous efforts which resulted in an allowance win and most recently a listed stakes win. She is a midpack runner who may have an advantage of first run over the bevvy of closers in the field.
#13 Bago or Bust 20/1
Bago or Bust is a daughter of Bago out of the King Cugat x Dubai Millennium mare Wolf of Dubai. This is the mare’s first stakes placed offspring from eight foals. Bago or Bust lost her debut by a short head while going five furlongs back in February. She returned in a conditioned allowance to win by a head going five and one half furlongs. She followed that up with a third place finish in a listed and then was well beaten in a grade three. Most recently she was third in a six furlong Japan local bred allowance at six furlongs. In her first two starts she lead from the gate and in her subsequent starts she battled for the early lead. This may be your pacemaker folks.
#14 Golden Son 27/1
Golden Son is a daughter of Golden Ticket out of the graded placed stakes winning Carson City x Mr. Prospector mare June Son. From fourteen foals June Son has produced four either graded or stakes placed offspring. Golden Son has more experience than any other filly in the field with eight starts already to her name. She has won two of those and finished third in another. Her first seven starts came on the dirt where she broke her maiden. In her most recent start she tried the lawn for the first time and won a New York local bred race against the males going five and one half furlongs. Her speed in that win was only a 66 but she won smartly by one length, closing from last in the five horse field.
Good luck to all!
