Want To Dance goes gate to wire in Stupidly Not Beau Handicap

Want To Dance supplied the early speed, the middle speed, and the late speed to capture this week’s Stupidly Not Beau Handicap. The four year old colt posted a blazing 106.8 speed to get his fourth career stakes win and first of this season. The victory takes him to the $322670 mark in earnings for his seventeen starts. He also climbs to a rank of 72 in the Turf Sprint division with the much needed stakes points. Bettors had a field day in this one, with the winner paying $20.30 $8.90 $6.90 across the board. The exotics were very profitable too, paying $174.40 in the exacta and $980.60 in the trifecta.

The break was very tight in this one, with Want To Dance opening a slim margin over Flyphard’s Event, with much of the field tight on their heels. Want to Dance really opened it up as they approached the half, and managed to lengthen his lead to a full legth at the half. He showed absolutely no sign of flagging at the half, and continued to open up ground on the field as they approached the top of the stretch. With a faster pace than expected at the half, none of the closers could mount much of a rally. Oh Blackwater was coming hard late, coming from four and a half out at the top of the stretch but had to settle for second place, two and three quarters out at the wire. The ever consistent Flypahrd’s Event hung on for third, three lengths behind at the line.
