Two Eights Vs Two Fives!

The $60,000 Plum Seattle Memorial will send four to the gate this week.  The mile and five eighths event will be contested across what should be a firm turf course in British Columbia.  Let’s review the field.

PP Horse ID Horse Owner Jockey Odds W / P / S

Holy Sky is a 5yo son of Holy Bull out of a Sky Classic mare.  Hi Jackson is aboard.  This will be the grey horse’s first try past 10F.  It appears as though he liked the distance last time out so the added ground may be beneficial.  We’ll see if he has the stamina.

Jupiter’s Moons (IRE) and A. Rolling are 7/5.  The 5yo Galileo (IRE) progeny has amassed $3.7M on the weeds in his career.  His recent form is not what it used to be, but you cannot discard a horse like this when the field is a mere four horses.  Prefers 12F, but can easily handle the extra green.  Formidable.

Seattle Habitat is 5/2 under B. Bauder.  The 8yo blue-blooded horse has been nothing short of consistent throughout his career.  He went 20 races in a row without finishing worse than fourth before running 5th in May of 2005.  Since then he has still managed to hit the board more often than not and has a recent stakes win at this distance.  Will be a major player down the stretch.

Title Duke is 3/2.  D. Brownridge is in the irons.  The other 8yo in the field has been just as impressive as the aforementioned son of Seattle Slew.  Not as regally bred, his sire is Blue Moonofalaska.  Another later runner who should be right on the heels of his counterpart.  May not be his preferred distance at this stage of his career.

On paper, it looks like Jupiter’s Moons will get an easy lead with Holy Sky a close up second.  The two old men will be further back and must stay within striking distance of what is most likely going to be a very slow pace.  I wouldn’t expect speed figures over 95 for the winner.
