Welcome to lovely Vermont this gorgeous Saturday afternoon where they are “Dancin in the Street” in anticipation of the running of the David Bowie sponsored by EWC residency. We have an interesting group of 3 yo fillies taking the gate this afternoon in going a mile on dirt for a cool $1,000,000 purse. Let’s take a look at the 19 runners “Under Pressure” to bring home a medal for their respective residencies.
| 1) EIGHTEEN SUMMERS (KY) 27/1 – $152K (SP) |
This bay filly by Colonel John out of a Zabeel mare goes out for the BAILEYSTABLE barn representing QUEENSLAND RACECOURSE.
Heavily raced filly appears to do her best running out front. Hit the board in a listed as a 2 yo but that was going 5f on dirt. Reeled off 3 straight ALW wins in dirt route races prior to her last which was a very dull and disappointing effort in going 8.25f on dirt. Appears to be in over her head in taking major class jump here. Look elsewhere.
2) XANTICO ZIP (KY) 10/1 – $424K (SW/GP)
This lovely scratchbred chestnut filly (City Zip x AP Indy x Alydar) goes out for the JAKA2 barn representing ESR.
Another filly that appears to do her best running on the front end. Won listed four back going 9.5f on the lead in the slop where she is 3/3. Somewhat of a perplexing filly having run her career best two back with an impressive run finishing 2nd to HOF Swapsco Kitty w/107 SP in the G1 Chestnut going same distance here but coming up short last out in an ALW prep. Talented filly is getting quite a bit of respect by the oddsmaker at 10/1. Not sure this is her sweet spot but surely capable of getting a piece of the purse here.
3) EUCLA ASTATINE (KY) 11/1 – $272K (G3)
This nicely bred light grey filly by City Zip out of a Tapit mare goes out for the BREEDNSELL barn representing MIDAS.
Mid-pack runner that should be sitting behind the early pace setters here. Won her G3 two back in the Seiena with a 107 SP. Tried longer and stepping up in class last out in the G1 Sister Hen going 9f where she finished a respectable 4th with a 104 SP. This filly has been handled well by her connections and looks to be very dangerous cutting back to a mile here today.
4) FOREST ON THE MOON (BRZ) 16/1 – $160K (SP)
This bay filly by Forestry out of a Mr. Prospector mare goes out for the NICKYKING barn representing NORTHWEST RACING CIRCUIT.
This near the lead type has only 1 win and 3 third place finishes in 7 dirt tries thus far. Ran exclusively on turf as a 2 yo and made her dirt debut when she turned 3 where she has stayed since. However, her two best dirt efforts were in listed stakes going 9/9.5f where she hit the board on both occasions. Compelling filly that appears to want more than the mile here despite pedigree that would suggest otherwise. Would need to take a big step forward to hit the board in this spot. Look elsewhere.
5) THE BULB FACTOR (KY) 10/1 – $1M (G1)
This beautifully bred bay filly by Distorted Humor out of a Street Cry mare goes out for the GONESURFIN barn representing EWC.
Race sponsor (EWC) is well represented here with this classy multiple G1 winning filly, one of two G1 winners entering the gate today. This tough looking filly took down the G1 Movieland Startlet at 2 and followed that up with another G1 badge winning the California Oaks four back at 3 where she ran a career best 107 SP. She will be sitting off the pace here and look to make a big move when they turn for home just as her mom did (HOLY BULB) in winning this same race back in 2014! However, this filly has had a much tougher campaign entering this race then mom having run in 8 grades including 6 x G1’s. Very dangerous on class but question what’s left in her tank at this juncture. Believe oddsmaker is spot on making her co-3rd choice.
6) NYAH (KY) 20/1 – $207K (G3)
This bay filly by Bodemeister out of a 49er mare goes out for the FREDDURST barn representing EUROPEAN UNION RACING ORGANIZATION.
If on her game, this filly will do her best running late. Was running well when she switched to dirt early this year at 3 winning three in a row including the G3 Timber Stakes going 8.5f on dirt with a 104 SP. However, dull in her last two runs since stepping up in class finishing 9th in both the G1 Chestnut and G2 First Stake Oaks. Pedigree not on her side as mom was a SW dirt sprinter and 0-5 in dirt routes. Not sure her best is good enough to compete with some of these. Look elsewhere.
7) QUEEN LIONESS (KY) 13/1 – $420K (G2)
This scratchbred light grey filly (Medaglia D’ Oro x Storm Cat x Mr. Prospector) goes out for the SILVERSUN7 barn representing GR SIMSTERS
Regally bred filly is yet another that likes the lead. Connections have done a fine job managing this filly that has steadily improved while moving up the class ladder since turning 3 and routing on dirt. She took down a listed three back wiring the field and followed that up with another wire-to-wire victory in the G2 Mellow Breeze, both at this same mile distance. She was caught late in her last finishing 2nd in a G3 dirt mile back in May. A strong contender that should hit the board here provided she fires off the 2+ month layoff.
8) DARK LOUIE’S CRAFT (MD) 26/1 – $223K (SW/GP)
This bay filly by Not for Love out of a Monsun mare goes out for the DARKSTARS9 barn representing MEGALOPOLIS RACING CIRCUIT.
An off the pace type that is still seeking her 1st career dirt win. Both her listed win and GP came on turf as a 2 yo. Has shown decent speed figures in her last two listed runs on dirt, her only two dirt tries thus far. Facing a monumental task as she appears outclassed in this spot. Look elsewhere.
9) MOON SPARKLE (JPN) 9/1 – $176K (GP)
This scracthbred bay filly (Empire Maker x Storm Cat x Seattle Slew) goes out for the RABID1 barn representing UNIVERSAL RACING CLUB.
Another nicely bred and managed filly that should be part of the early pace. This talented filly has been knocking at the door in looking to take that next class step with 2nd place finishes in a listed and G3 routing on dirt at 3 running a 103/106 respectively. Tired late in her last, a G3 going 8.5f on dirt with another 106 SP. She may enjoy the cutback to a flat mile and hang on for piece of the purse. Getting ton of respect here in going off as your co-2nd choice. I’d love to see what this filly can do going 10-12f on turf!
10) A THOUSAND STARS (IRE) 19/1 – $160K (ALW)
This bay filly by Sea The Stars out of a Kingmambo mare goes out for the CORRECTION barn representing PASTURES OF GREEN.
A lovely bred multi-surface filly that should be sitting just off the pace. Has run primarily in local bred restricted races including last out where she was caught late in an ALW going a mile on dirt with a 103 SP. She did finish a respectable 4th in her only graded try back in Feb going 8f on dirt in a G3. Promising looking filly looking to take a quantum jump forward. Not yet. Look elsewhere for now.
11) CABARETERA (AUS) 16/1 – $156K (SP)
This bay filly by Encosta De Lago out of a Rock Hard Ten mare goes out for the ARGENTINO2 barn representing HISPANO PARLANTE.
Would expect to see this filly sitting just of the pace as well. Connections have done a very good job being patient with this filly that has progressed nicely. She hit the board with 3rd place finishes in her only two stakes tries thus far, both listed, in her last two efforts routing on dirt. Career best 107 SP in her last going 9f. Still seeking elusive stakes win and taking on graded company here cutting back to a mile. Outclassed against the top runners in here but may surprise with top effort and hit the board at a price. Include in exotics.
12) SMART ZAPPER (KY) 14/1 – $319K (G3)
This scratchbred bay filly (Smart Strike x Unbridled x Ghostzapper) goes out for the HARRYLANLOW5 barn representing ELITE RACING CLUB.
A talented mid-pack runner. Took down a listed four back with a 105 SP winning by open lengths going dirt mile. Followed that up with a quality 2nd place finish in the G2 Mellow Breeze going same dirt mile. Two back earned her graded badge by winning a dirt mile G3 by open lengths as well. Connections tried a surface switch sending her in a turf mile ALW race last out where she faltered. This race sets up nicely for her running style. A live long shot capable of running a big race in switch back to dirt. Include in exotics at a price.
13) NASTY BEER LV (SAF) 10/1 – $280K (SW/GP)
This bay filly by Dynasty out of a Flying Spur mare goes out for the BIZALLS10 barn representing THE EH TEAM.
Versatile filly can sit off the pace or come storming home late. Dominated the SAF circuit running in restricted dirt routes. Ran big in her open stakes debut taking down a listed with a 104 SP back in March. Followed that up with a nice 3rd place finish in the G2 Mellow Breeze doing dirt mile. Tried stretching her out to 9 panels in the G2 Black Middle Flower where she flattened out finishing 7th. Connections are must be encouraged with her effort last out where she ran huge finishing 2nd with a 110 SP in a G3 going 8.5f on dirt. This filly is seeking her 1st graded victory that could very well come on Saturday with another huge run. Contender.
14) BAD QUALITIES (KY) 9/1 – $870K (G1)
This bay filly by Elusive Quality out of a Dubawi mare goes out for the ASRSTAR4 barn representing ALL-STAR RACING.
Our other G1 winning filly taking the gate today that should be sitting relatively close to the pace. This classy filly is out of a superb mare (Bad Stella) that did her best running going 10f+ on dirt. Connections have done a wonderful job with this filly. She is coming off a monster run winning the G1 Sister Hen going 9f on dirt by open lengths last out. That splendid effort was on the heels of a G2 victory in the Black Middle Flower going 9f dirt two back. She is co-2nd choice here but not sure cutting back to a flat mile best suits her having done her best running going 9f+. I fear a bounce here at a relatively short price.
15) JENNY’S PICCOLO (ENG) 60/1 – $81K (CLM)
This scratchbred brown filly (Piccolo x Flatter x Harlan) goes out for the UKWOMAN barn representing BRITISH AND NORDIC RACING CLUB.
This filly should be on or just off the lead, for a short while at least. Comes into this race still eligible for NW1X never having even run an ALW race, let alone stake level. Would take a behemoth effort to get a piece of the purse. Simply way in over her head and an underlay at 60/1.
16) ELUSIVE MINE ER (KY) 16/1 – $204K (SW)
This bay filly by Elusive Quality out of a Mineshaft mare goes out for the ERRACING barn representing MINNESOTA TESTBARN.
Nice looking filly is another speedball that will look to be on the front end and make for a torrid pace. Although this filly has won 7 out of 14 starts, she is only 1 for 3 in dirt routes. Her lone stakes win was a listed going 6.5f two back. Her lone route win was an ALW race last out going 8.5f on an off track with a 101 SP (career best). Mom was a quality turf sprinter and can see a graded badge for this filly in the future going one turn. Class and distance issues. Look elsewhere.
17) DOING IT RIGHT (KY) 8/1 – $188K (SW)
This light grey filly by Malibu Moon out of a Unbridled’s Song mare goes out for the MTKINDY barn representing BLAZING SADDLES.
This sexy filly should be sitting just of the expected hot pace. Lightly raced having won 5 of 9 career starts, all dirt routes. She came up a little short in her stakes debut at 3 with a 2nd place finish going 8.5f with a 101 SP back in Feb.. Tried stepping up in class/distance in the G2 Miss Bonnie in her next start where she finished mid-pack running a 100 SP. Flat again in her subsequent start trying longer finishing 4th in a 10f listed. Connections wisely cut her back going 8.5f in an ALW race two back where she breezed home winning by open lengths with a 113 SP. She earned her stakes badge last out at same 8.5f with 109 SP. Believe the flat mile here will suit her perfectly. This filly is in top form and extremely dangerous in this spot. My top choice for gold and oddsmaker agrees as she will be going off as the favorite.
18) SOPHIA LOREN (KY) 15/1 – $576K (GP)
This bay filly by Ghostzapper out of a Bernardini mare goes out for the TWINOAKS barn representing DELPENN NATIONAL.
And yet another filly that will be pressing the pace.Since winning her route debut on dirt last year at 2,Connections were high on this filly sending her in seven straight grades including six G1’s. This filly is still eligible for NW2X but has faced some tough company this year at 3. To her credit, she hit the board in 3 of those G1’s finishing 2nd all three times in the Darley, Movieland Startlet and Vermont is 4 Lovers. Connections offered some class relief last out running her in a dirt mile ALW and must have been disappointed with her dull effort finishing 5th place with a 96 SP. Plently of potential but not today. Look elsewhere.
19) HANS SOLO TB (TUR) 26/1 – $155K (ALW)
This bay filly by Talip Han out of a Singspiel mare goes out for the DONTBETONME16 barn representing RACING HQ. This spunky little filly should be coming from way off the pace. Has won 7 of 11 starts including 6 of 9 in dirt routes. However, has faced relatively week company running in CLM/STR/ALW races including local bred restricted. Could potentially earn a stakes badge in future at local restricted level but has her work cut out for her here and appears overmatched against many of these. Look elsewhere.
Medal Projections:
GOLD: DOING IT RIGHT
SILVER: SMART ZAPPER
BRONZE: EUCLA ASTATINE
Best of luck to all connections participating here today and may all of your fillies return safe and sound.
Frankster
Very nice presentation and a well written article. Great for these trainers to get a view of their horse from one of the Sim’s best trainers!
and we all thought Frank could only communicate with his hands….
