From  the Hipodromo Da Gavea  racecourse in Rio de Janeiro,  Brazil we bring you the G1 Equinics event,  Innocence,  a marathon turf contest for older fillies and mares.  Contested at ~2800 meters (or 14 furlongs  for the stateside fans) an overflow field of eighteen ladies will battle for the winner’s share of the $1,000,000 purse up for grabs,  as well as the glory that comes with being an Equinics champion.  The race is capped off with a festive trophy presenatation on the infield,  where the winning connections will be in the spotlight.
.
i’m guessing this race was named after the mare Innocence from the mid 1960.s.  There was precious little to discover about her.  She was born in 1963.   Her breeding was:  Sea Hawk  –  Novitiate  by  Fair Trial.  Sea Hawk was by the famed turf sire Herbager.  That’s about all,  folks.  Of course,  this race could also be named for the loss of innocence,   in whatever form it may take.
.
We have a pair of G2 victors and a pair of G3 winners.  That leaves fourteen others who look to rack up a graded victory star for their resume.  Let’s take a closer look at them in post position order and see how they compare.
