We have a really interesting field here with some up an comers in the three year old ranks. Some of these youngsters are really starting to mature and could be the next big thing in our race world. Here is hoping that I can be one of the folks that get to say “I remember when…” at the end of the year when the votes come in for the three year old Horse of the Year. I know that many of these trainers are dreaming the same thing so let’s take a look:

(SHAMARDAL x KING OF KINGS (IRE) x SEEKING THE GOLD out of NIGHT’S WATCH) This nice looking chestnut colt jumps up to the Graded circuit for the second time for trainer Nickesyd. A two times Stakes winner but it has been the best part of a year since he visited the circle. Competitive but hasn’t had a real good race since throwing an 87 SPF four back. He seems to still be deciding how he feels about different distances and may like closer to a mile the best. Inside post will benefit his front running style.

(EL CORREDOR x CONQUISTADOR CIELO x BOLD RULER) This little chestnut filly is going up against the boys for the first time and should be able to compete here. She has won half of her eight races including three Stakes races but is jumping up to the Gradeds for the first time. Her best SPF was last time out with a near 93 where she was just short coming from second. Trainer Deyoto feels that she will give the boys all that she can handle and I tend to believe that is right.

(QUINTON’S GOLD x UNBRIDLED x TOKATEE) Here is a colt who has been getting a lot of lip service from his owner Troy5. After his sizzling 96+SPF last time out, I can understand that excitement. After five straight at a mile or more including one stumbling try on the clay, this colt came from way back and rocketed to the win at six and a half last time out and may be the horse to beat here. He has Dawg holding the reins and he is more than capable of guiding this youngster.

( SILVER GHOST x CAPOTE x WILD AGAIN) Since turning to the grass four back this beautiful charcoal colt has really taken off winning a Stakes race and last time out winning the Booty Call GIII with a sizzling 97+ SPF. He was so far back in that race that they had to call jockey Williams on his cell phone to tell him to catch up! Trainer Seedly watched his prize colt show his velocity down the stretch though to win going away. He has Diggs in the leather and he is one of the best at the track. A formidable team here.

( MANNDAR (IRE) x THEATRICAL(IRE) x GREEN DESERT out of BARB’S PRIMMA DONNA) Seven of nine in the money for this roan colt with a couple of Stakes races thrown in but trainer 5HeffsBarn has to be a little worried about the lack of effort last time out in the Booty Call GIII where he finished back in the middle of the pack. Both of his Graded attempts and his past three races have generally been uninspired and this colt needs some motivation to get back to the circle. Edwards is in the irons and may be the one to help out in that regard.

( KITTEN’S JOY x BROWN ARC x ROYAL SKI out of SEPTIC SMELL) This lightly raced Kitten’s Joy offspring has continued to improve in his turf sprint races. He had his best SPF last time out but it was only good enough for fourth place in the Stakes outing. Trainer Elenalag knows that this cream colored colt needs to bump up the speed figure to compete here. Powers is holding the reins and though he has had a light dancecard so far this year, he has shown a nice percentage of winners.

( BOLD EXECUTIVE x PASS CATCHER x ROMAN) A two time Stakes winner including the Bargain Bred Series last year and also his last outing in the BIRDS OF AFRICA Stakes this colt has exceeded Aussie2’s expectations and looks to still be improving. In that last race, he had a near 92 SPF won rather easily. He will have to overcome the ice cold start of jockey Chump who is still looking for his first win this year but this colt has certainly overcome long odds before.

( SPINNING WORLD x RAINBOW QUEST x DIXIELAND BAND out of PREACH TIL DAWN) This nicely bred former Stakes winner just missed his second Stakes win last time out finishing second on an off track in Minnesota. Trainer PlayShack has to be happy with his continued improvement and hopes to see that again in his first Graded outing. Jockey Rumble is looking for some improvement as well as he hasn’t seen the circle all year in 19 starts. A little bump in SPF could go a long way here.

( SPINNING WORLD x RAINBOW QUEST x DIXIELAND BAND) This will be the first race this year after a long layoff for Wulf’s colt. He hasn’t run since Breeders Bowl day last year but he has been seven times in the top two spots in only nine races in his young career. It will certainly be interesting here to see whether the layoff has helped or if he needs a couple of races to get back to top form. He has the best jockey at the track in Harzheim doing his magic in the saddle and this may be a place to make some money at the window with generous ML odds.

( STORM CAT x MR. PROSPECTOR x NIJINSKY II)) Impeccable breeding for this colt and a top 10 ranking didn’t give this colt any preference from the Morning Line. Trainer FutureStar watched him win last time out in his first three year old outing by easing up and still beating a short field in the CORONADO’S GOLD CHALLENGE Stakes. This colt could easily surprise here especially with Nugent in the saddle who knows how to bring these youngsters home.

( STRIKE THE GOLD x GONE WEST x DANZIG) The only colt in this race to have broken the 90 SPF barrier twice including his last race, this chestnut colt is coming off of an impressive Stakes win and trainer YDRacing3 has to be dreaming about one of those that really matures as a three year old. He is a stalker that will be looking to duck behind SLEEPING SATELITE and any other front runners and turn it on at the top of the stretch. A little surprising that they went with jockey Ross who has underachieved so far this year.

( RAINBOW QUEST x NOT IMPOSSIBLE (IRE) x COZZENE out of TOM’S HAPPY HIPPY) After winning a Graded race at a mile last year, this colt has struggled to find himself and trainer Blazer2 will try here to drop him back to a shorter distance to see if that will shake him up a bit. He certainly has the talent but seems to lack motivation every time out. That may come with maturity and hopefully jockey Tull can help bring that out this race.

(DYNAFORMER x CARSON CITY x ROUND TABLE) DocTahg1’s chestnut colt had a four race win streak last year but finished with a fourth then tried the dirt in his first outing this year with disappointing results. A trip back to the grass and the shorter distance may be just what the “Doctor” ordered here and could get his career jump started again. Unfortunately, jockey Shady needs a little jump start as well as he is still looking for his first win of 2007. DocTahg1 knows how to saddle them up and may just surprise everyone here.

(AZAMOUR (IRE) x KING OF KINGS (IRE) x MIESQUE’S SON) No matter what trainer Bandinni throws at this colt, he finds a way to end up in the top three. Throw out one race as a maiden and every one of his eight races have been in the money including the GIII BOOT CALL Stakes last time out where he finished third with an impressive 91 SPF. If he can duplicate that effort here, he will be in the mix once again. For the first time in that last race, he didn’t jump out in front and that may be the strategy again here with the outside post.
Morning Line = 4-11-3-2-14
Paz Picks = 4-3-11-9-10
This has a chance to be a really electrifying race and it may end up with lots of jostling for the win at the finish. I like RAINBAND to finish fourth although he may finish much better. I would like to see him with another race under his belt after the layoff. SEA KING CYCLONE is showing some consistency with his speed and I think he has enough to finish in the top three. PAPER JESUS is getting some pub and was flying last time out but I want to see that duplicated before crowing him a super horse. That leaves the win for a hard charging VELOCITY ROGUE who will pass everyone in the stretch and claim the win. He really impressed me last time out and I think he can do it again.
