Balanced Field For Handicap
(SP)Wyoming- It seems the WRC has finally started listening to WHOA and the general public in picking honorary races after multiple stakes winners. For several weeks this has happened and will continue on Saturday. The race in question is the third running of the $55,000 St. Defiant Handicap set as the main event on the weekend. It will be a nine furlong route on the grass for four years or older horses. This handicap has produces some outstanding times and good competition and the organizers are looking to continue on in this. Early indication project this happening. Six horse have interred the event and it is now time to meet them.
Big Thunder entered by supapogs8. This elder horse comes in as one of the early favorites. Already the closer has shown a solid effort this year with two stakes places in a row. This is his preferred distance and has excelled with consistent results. He will have the wily veteran Vince Gannon in the irons which should help his quest for his first win of the year.
Barb’s Back Home entered by barbstable. Coming in also with good odds is this elder horse by Sadler’s Wells. He started out the year with impressive results that were darkened by a stumble last time out when he attempted a sprint. The closer is hoping a return to routing will bring a return to his winning ways. Having top jockey Jesse Sands in the irons can only help.
High D’Inverne(IRE) entered by dcstar. This Irish chestnut colt comes in as another co-favorite by the odds makers. The pacesetter is going for his second stakes attempt after a monster run last time out. He seems to have overcome his slight inconsistency of last year and is using this race to make a statement of his intent to dominate the elder colt grouping.
Can Of Corn Ma entered by shagade14. This elder statesman comes in still putting up the numbers. He is more comfortable around a mile and it has been well over a year since his last attempt with this much ground to cover. He seems to have lost a step and would better suited in allowances around a mile. Although, the jockey James Doyle will be in the saddle and he has an excellent stakes win ratio per stakes rides and could bring a surprise win.
C’Mon(GB) entered by hansg. This British horse comes in our last of the early co-favorites. The closer stretches out to longest he has gone in two seasons. He is hoping to end a long two year spell without a stakes with this outing. He has drawn hot jockey John Dawg in the irons.
Tiz A Cat entered by icechaser. The last entry is a colt by Tiznow. This front runner has returned to stakes competition looking for that first win. He is a solid if not spectacular runner and seems to produce his best results in short fields like this weekend will be. Will need to break out of the gates in the front or his race is over.
