MINNY HEADLINER HAS 7 FILLIES SPRINTING ON THE TURF

A field of 7 fillies are entered in this week’s feature race at Minnesota Downs. The 10th race feature is THE TOOTSIE RAIN STAKES, going 61/2 furlongs on the turf for 3 year old fillies and offers a purse of $50,000. The race is named after the mare TOOTSIE RAIN, who ran in the LETITRIDE stable and had 14 wins (4 stakes wins) in 66 starts, was a sprint specialist and earned $447,528 in lifetime earnings.

Lets’s take a look at today’s field:

1)THUNDERING STORM(KY)–7/2–cylla2222 has this filly out of THUNDER GULCH entered with a 12-4-4-2 lifetime record and $145,960 in career earnings. After a lifetime debut MSW win on the dirt she switched to the turf in her 4th lifetime start and has been a force since. This filly, ranked 61st in the division has finished in the money in 6 out of 7 stakes starts including 1 victory. She posted an 85 speed rating last time out which is a career best. She can be on the front end or can stalk the pace and has the services of Hardinger (8.6%) in the reigns today.

2)LACTOSA(KY)–9/2–dreamscity has this filly out of GULCH entered with a 6-3-0-0 lifetime record and $76,830 in career earnings. She debuted on the dirt and after a subpar result was switched to the turf with much improved results. This filly, ranked 199th in the division has 1 stake victory in her career already and does have a lifetime best 84 speed rating under her belt. She is a closer and will be under the ridership of one of the circuits top jockeys in Bowen(16.4%). Her record indicates a first or nowhere finish and her last race was a flat running 4th in a field of 4 as her 3 year old debut.

3)SKYJACKER(AUS)–5/1–911 has this filly out of FLYING SPUR(AUS) entered with a 5-3-1-0 lifetime record and $53,175 in career earnings. She debuted on the dirt and was then switched to the turf and posted back to back wins in MSW and NW2 allowance race, but ended her 2 year old campaign finishing 5th in a 7 field stake race. This filly, ranked 207th in the division made her 3 year old debut in an allowance race with NW2X restrictions and closed well for the victory posting an 86 speed rating. Smith(10.2%) gets the call today.

4)BLOCK OF UNITS(ENG)–7/1–corza has this filly out of SELKIRK entered with a 10-3-1-1 lifetime record and $217,570 in career earnings. She started her career on the turf in a restricted stakes finishing 4th and then strung back to back wins in a MSW and stakes race, her only stakes victory in her career to date. This 10th ranked filly in the division managed one second place finish in her 4 graded race attempts at 2 years old. Her last 2 races have been on the dirt and with the disappointing finish in her 3 year old debut she has been entered back on the turf where she has had most of her success. Gardocki(8.3%) is aboard today.

5)MYTHICAL D’ORO(KY)–4/1–leo4 has this filly out of MADAGLIA D’ORO entered with a 7-3-3-0 lifetime record and $221,290 in career earnings. This filly has an amazing 2 year old campaign with 3 wins and 3 seconds in 6 starts and posted 3 80+ speed rating figures. All of her wins were in allowance company but she did post 2 second place finishes in her stakes starts. This 116th ranking filly in the division tried a Grade III route race for her 3 year old debut and was never a factor in the race finishing in 10th place, which has the trainer shortening her up back to this sprinting distance of today’s race. Ritterspauch(10.4%) is the rider aboard today.

6)SPOKE ABOUT WINGS(KY)–9/2–seedly has this filly out of PINE BLUFF entered with a 7-1-1-1 lifetime record and $15,585 in career earnings. This filly will be making her turf debut in today’s race after racing exclusively on the dirt so far in her career. She won her MSW debut at 2 and has finished 3rd in a stakes race this year in her 3 year old campaign. In her last start she was badly outrun while finishing 13 out of 14 horses in a Grade II event. Pickel(10.4%) is the rider who gets the call today.

7)MEAN CHARLENE(TX)–4/1–cjjonesz has this filly out of GOLD LEGEND entererd with a lifetime record of 12-3-4-0 and $80,610 in career earnings. This filly had a 2 year old campaign that consisted of running on both surfaces and she recorded a win on both the dirt and turf surfaces. Her turf win was for a 35K tag where she was plucked by the current stable. After the claim she ran in 2 stakes races at 2 years old and was not a factor in either race. This 188th division ranked filly has woken up in her 3 year old campaign by finishing 2nd in both of her races this year including her last where she posted a 90 speed rating in stakes company. Circuit top rider Friar(17.4%) will guide this one around the track today.

I am going to take a shot at the FLYING SPUR(AUS) filly in today’s race—#3 SKYJACKER(AUS).
