Trainer sgb hopes N Ritcher can live up to his name aboard IRON AVATAR(IRE).  The filly capped off her 3-year-old year with a few 103 speed figures in stakes.  While she has not won in six months, the Perfect Soul/Gone West chestnut has a solid chance at 7-1 despite being one of many closers in this race.

The BIG UGLY roan comes in off an allowance win for jrogue.  The 5-year-old daughter of Summer Squall has back class with a recent stakes win and Grade 1 placing.  We’ll see how low-percentage jock S Frye handles the pace scenario with this deep closer: she’s beaten only one horse to the second call in her last five races combined.

ANGEL GIRL is the lone 6-year-old and a Geri/Mountain Cat product.  The mizuno mare has not been out of the trifecta in her last 12 (!) races, so bettors take note.  This consistent runner has some tactical speed for jockey B Gates to use.  She has at least a chance to beat the favorite.  Hear hear for the older girls.

ADIOS AMIGO, in the devil01 colors, bounced back from a disappointing Milky Way Stakes-G2 run with a win in the VELVET Special Stakes last time out.  That closing style served the El Corredor/Lyphard mare well in the Grade 1 Princess Di Cap earlier this year.  Jockey N Ambrose is savvy enough to help with the riding strategy, and 6-1 is a juicy enough price for the accomplished 5-year-old.

DEAD SOLID PERFECT(IRE), a High Chaparral daughter of the Kris S. mare JADED LOVER, looks to give snowchief the graded stakes win that eluded her in the Grade 1 Princess Di Cap back in week 2965.  While she was a fine second in that race to ADIOS AMIGO, she has had three off-the-board placings since then and must recapture her form.  She likes to run last early, and with so many other deep closers in this race, journeyman jock J Hoffman must try to make that strategy work in challenging conditions.

DESTINED is a newly-minted 4-year-old with the powerful Rahy/Danzig bloodlines in her corner.  Super24 is finally enjoying this filly’s early promise – a stakes win as a 2-year-old – now that she has three fine races in a row.  She followed two allowance wins with a third to MISWAKI’S LAST in the NUN SADDLE(IRE) Challenge last out.  N Dodds is up for this graded stakes effort.  For the win, she does look like a 20-1 longshot, but a trifecta finish is not out of the question.

DEPUTY HUNTER: Wow! What a 2006.  This Deputy Minister/A.P. Indy mare dominated last year, with 9 wins out of 14 races, including three graded stakes tallies.  The  barn25dog mare is versatile enough to lay back or attend the pace, and that flexibility with a likely slow pace makes her hard to beat.  Top jock P Haynes is likely to get the best from this one.  A deserving favorite.

BLUE WHITE is a 4-year-old Fort Wood filly who has just come into her own in her last two races, both sharp allowance wins on the front end.  She looks to be the lone front runner, so safbred and jockey P Vessels may try to steal this one.  The pace scenario certainly seems to mark her an overlay at 19-1.  I like Fort Wood as a sire, so I’ll be rooting for her.
