THE MINNESOTA FUTURE TURF STARS (Part 2 – Written by Randy)
Part 2 Article writen by Randy @ Minnesota.
Okiedokie, back to the preview :
pp11) – 20/1 – Alba Guru (Opera King / Exchange Rate / Capote) – (manapace) – Sa. Jackson (4%) – didn’t find more familiar name to this stable, but i’ve got a couple like that entered today as well… this colt’s still looking for his first win, but from 6 turf runs he does have two 2nd’s and two 3rd’s to his credit. He’s a real late late runner that shows a couple of 77spd#’s at a mile on the turf. I’m expecting him to run his best yet in todays race, we’ll have to see just how much he improves, but with a bit of improvement he could make the late going interesting for his stable, and for the others as well .
pp12) – 8/1 – Goodtobetheking(IRE) (King’s Best(IRE) / Diesis(GB) / Sadler’s Wells) – (desperado2) – P. Green(9%) – Mn. resident Rob comes in with a solid turf running colt who’s never missed a top 3 finish from 4 turf tries, and 3 of those were route runs. On paper at this point of the preview he appears to be the main contender to Bigricks Koo Koo, his spd# backed up a bit in his last run at 8.5f, but he was an easy winner so that should be a positive going into this field. Two starts back he ran a very impressive 85spd# at a mile on the turf in a fast heet that yielded a 3rd place finnish. He looks plenty tough and fit going into this one, all the looks of a major player and it may well be that he knows it’s good to be king
pp13) – 15/1 – Donaru(IRE) (Doyen(IRE) / Rubiano / Nashua) – (rsb) – J. Ritorto (11%) – Rich brings a second entry into the fray, and he looks to have a solid one-two punch going here, this time a colt, and Rich also managed to pull down the one-two Mn. rider double with both S. Upertoy and now Johnno, Rich you must be tipping too well around the stables
this colt has made three runs all on the turf and he’s shown nice improvement with each run, his last being a month ago where he ran 2nd at a mile on the turf with a 79 spd# , this guy likes to run late, and Johnno who’s fresh off another session at the rehab center should be in better form a few more weeks still
no surprize to see this guy coming into the picture in the final furlong, good luck Rich, and i bet you must be enjoying the easy competition you’ve had in the 2nd round of the Mn. Cup Contest
pp14) – 8/1 – Organic Chemistry (Sadler’s Wells / Storm Cat / Mr. Prospector) – (holybull99) – K. Friar (19%) – Dundey brings in a totally royal bred colt from a grade B mare of his that has been quite successful at throwing stakes winners, in fact this guy has a stakes win already. Two starts back going 7.5f on the turf he bested a stakes field with an 83 spd#, 6 for 6 top 3 finishes going on the turf, he’s made the lead the last 3 times out, and looks to have a decent shot at doing so here, though i’ll say it now, that my colt from the outer most regions of #18 has been instructed to run to the front with a .90 setting, we’ll have to see if the jock listens or if that’s fast enough to make the lead … with this guys breeding being so scary, for him to jump up at any time and run a monster race is a definate possibility, and he figures to be in the mix even on an average day, another contender i’d say
pp15) – 10/1 – Rude Boy Ch (Kingmambo / El Prado(IRE) / Rudimentary) – (chevry) – B. Craver (8%) – Tom brings in a second runner, and this guy’s got some royal blood going for him as well, on top of that, nobody has beat him yet, well, it’s a one for one situation, but that one race was on the turf at 7.5f and he won right on the pace, many times the second start shows a big jump in spd3 and the added .5f could also boost this guy with those blood lines. he was a 2.5 length winner at first call, another who is quite capable of upsetting the more established in this fine field. It’s going to be quite interesting to see this one develop.
pp16) – 43/1 – Green Mandate (Full Mandate / Green Desert / Tilt Up) – (skanky) – N. Ballard (6%) – Skanky stable is another i couldn’t find a keyname home for, but this longshot shows one real big race out of his nine starts, and that was at 5.5f on the turf, where he ran an 83spd#. He has yet to run a route, and he’s shown that he’s capable of a ‘spike’ in form race, so with that in mind he may out run his long odds, but he’ll need to pull all that together in order to earn any points in this field it appears .
pp17) – 7/1 – Hey Tonight(IRE) (Montjeu(IRE) / Pleasant Colony / Pretense) – (desperado4) – J. Napper (7%) – rob brings in the morning line favorite for this, and this colt earned these odds off of one start, but oh what a start it was. A 7f on the turf run where he easily handled a full field of 14 winning by 1.5 lengths and earned an 80 spd# in the process. As mentioned earliar and as i’m sure you’ve all noticed, a lot of the time the 2nd and/or 3rd starts get a nice bump in spd#, of not always as we’ve also all suffered thru the flash in the pan syndrome, but odds are pretty good that this colt will run well, he may have come back layoff or injured from that first run as he’s had a 10 week rest, but look how long he’d rested before that first run
oh well,at least i amuse myself … good luck Rob, looks like you got a good one in Hey Tonight(IRE) .
pp18) – 11/1 – Wooden Mast (Mizzen Mast / Woodman / Green Desert) – (rrlogans) – O. Stinson (13%) – finally made it to my guy way on the outside, and the fact that he’s way out here led me to the decision to send this guy on a .90 jockey setting. His last out he went wire to wire on the turf at a mile vs a small alw. field in Ca where he got the lead with a .70 start speed earning an 83 spd#, so we’ll see how this .90 setting fits vs this classier field, hard to say in sim-land how all that works, but it seemed like it’d be a good idea not to be 15 wide going into the first turn, who knows
not me, i’m just hoping he doesn’t bounce off that last effort, he’s been off a month and came up ‘sharp’ but i’d rather he’d had 5 weeks to recover from that last run. Honestly after seeing the field i expect him to finish mid-pack at best .
best of luck to all, this figures to be another fine race as do all 16 this week in Mn., we have a great residency that’s getting better every day, thanks Theo and Johnno and chuck and Dennis and also to all those that participate weekly in the various contests and have some fun on the Mn. message board. Without all the fine people involved in sim and Mn i wouldn’t have lasted all these years watching my nags struggle week in and week out. Let’s keep it rolling !!
