KYHORSEMEN G1 DERBY
THE KYHORSEMEN – G1 DERBY
Mile ¼ Turf, 3yr Olds. $1000,000
By Morrighan
(1) 7/1 – Sharks Indigo Owner: dcsharks
Lots of early speed and the stamina to back it up.
Improving type and last two starts were top-notch, including
last start all the way win in a 10f turf allowance race.
Time: 2.01 4/5 104 SP
Will probably set the pace here, and if he gets too far away from them
there’s a small chance they might not catch him.
The dark horse of the field.
(2) 9/2 – Strong Belwas Owner: asoiaf
Enjoys this trip and longer, good jockey on board in R. Zamora.
Got a tough work out last start, racing in older company in the
Eclispse Stakes – G1 over 10f on turf.
Won the G3 – Saint Ledge Stakes three starts back over this distance
Time: 2.01 109 SP
One of the main chances.
(3) 9/1 – Green Valley Owner: lenny26
Has ability as his two strong runs in the Proper Vision Special Stakes and
The Parking Lot Stakes prove.
Need to find improvement to win here. Disregard last two starts when
asked to run shorter and on dirt should be back to best form here.
Time 2.02 102 SP
Only an outside chance.
(4) 9/2 – Otto Oh No Owner: freeky
Two starts on turf for two wins a G1 and a G2, after a career on dirt
the genie has been unleashed from the bottle. Nothing but sheer magic.
The surface change has made a good horse into a great horse.
Last two starts without saying were top-notch including racing and beating
older company in the Eclipse Stake – G1.
Great jockey onboard in J. Caves,
A strong closer who is getting to the line well.
Time: 2.00 4/5 110 SP
The one to beat.
(5) 13/1 – The Understudy (Ire) Owner: sykesy
Best guide for this race is probably his 3rd in the Fernazzle Classic Cup – G3.
Having trouble getting consistency at this distance and I don’t like his
chances trying to find it against the Pro’s assembled here.
Need a big improvement despite improving times.
Time: n/a 2.03+ 92 SP
Been too disappointing this season. Prefer others.
(6) 8/1 – Rosenthal (Ire) Owner: simsters8
Comes out hard then fades before the line. It has been running
in some strong/fast run races at G1 & G2 level and has genuine ability but unless
it finds something extra or breaks this racing pattern it’ll find it hard to win.
Time: n/a 2.01 4/5 * 104 SP
Place chance at best if it hangs in there.
(7) 5/1 – Town Prince (Ire) Owner: quitter
Didn’t seem to enjoy jumping out of its own age group last start in the
fast run Coxless Stakes – G1.
Solid previous runs in the Early Month Stakes – G2 and The Smackdown II – G1.
Time: 2.01 1/5 108 SP
Good on his day and capable of getting in the money here.
Could surprise.
(8) 13/1 – Able Giznad Ted Owner: xtchamps
Nice run in allowance company last start over 9f.
But jump to G1 company and extra furlong here is
a big ask for the horse. High stakes gamble literally but
there’s a big payoff if it works.
Time: n/a (103 SP at 9f)
Prefer in something easier.
(9) 7/2 – Skills in Magic Owner: peeps9
Has been struggling of late racing over the shorter trip but right
at home here over the 10f, as his impressive win in the 10f
Coxless Stakes – G1 and Big Red Stakes – G1 indicates.
Has a very good jockey onboard in W. Desanti.
Time: 2.00 4/5 110 SP
Very experienced performer, go very close to winning this.
(10) 20/1 – K’s Katatumbo Owner: matarile
It’s best race is over this trip & surface in allowance company.
Has been good this season but not exceptional, and it
will take an exceptional horse to win here.
Time: 2.02 2/5 100 SP
Not the worst but will have to find something special
to shake things up here.
SELECTIONS:
(4) Otto Oh No 9/2
(9) Skills In Magic 7/2
(2) Strong Belwas 9/2
Dark Horse (Danger) – Sharks Indigo 7/1
* Despite my respect for Skills In Magic I had to go with Otto Oh No
for the win because quite frankly it scares me with only two runs on turf it could go quicker. It has freak written all over it. Skills In Magic will have to reach deep
into his bag of tricks to smoke this guy and get the win.
