Classic Juvenile Filles clash in the Desert
Hello race fans and welcome to the final addition of Hoof Beats till after the holiday break . This week we travel to sunny Arizona to cover the 7 th annual running of the prestigious Mistaken Soda Identity Stakes – G II worth a cool $ 250,000 for eligible 2 yo fillies . The course is a fast 8.5 furlongs of Classic dirt and the race record is just begging to be broken . The current record is held by 2003 winner Giant Hopes from the Gipper4 stable and inaugural winner from 2000 Queen Bushel from the Erik stable in the time of 1:43:00 .
This years field is a full one and is filled with some serious competitors , the field is so close in class that there is no clear favorite to the betting public . The fillies that really stand out in my eye are : unbeaten filly Moreover and the very quick filly Promiscuous Girl . Both these fillies in for a huge fight today among this field , the will to win must be at a razors edge to make a triumphant showing .
On the rail at 8 / 1 is Indescribable ( Sadler’s Wells x Mr. Prospector x Kalphard (FR) ) representing the stables of trainer Babycolt and ridden by crafty veteran jock S . Parker . This grade placed filly won at first asking and has jetting around the globe in search of all who would oppose her will . This will be her first run at 8.5 furlongs yet she has already ran twice at 8 furlongs winning once last time out in The A.P. Naskara Stakes -Stk week 3014 in 1:37:1/5 84 SP . She seems to prefer to run in traffic and that should certainly be no problem today .
In post 2 at long odds of 23 / 1 is the irish bred filly Credit Reduced (IRE) ( Kheleyf (IRE) x Gallapiat x Great Commotion ) from the stables of Brentuk , winning journeyman jock N . Sharp gets the nod . This filly has had an up and down career , lack of consistency has hurt her standings in the juvenile division and the jump up in class has her in a backspin it seems . Primarily know as a tough Allowance runner , she makes another run at bigger competition this week .
In post 3 at 7 / 1 is the Harvey trained Mclaren Vale ( Gone West x Northern Dancer x Fappiano ) with veteran PJ Mitz in the irons . With 3 starts on the year she has won twice including her week 2958 dismantling of a light The Annie Adan Special Stakes -Stk field in Texas over 6.5 furlongs in 1:17:3/5 84 SP . A return to her staking ways might make the difference today and get another scratch in the win column .
In post 4 at 13 / 1 is the Bmr002 trained Machu Pichu ( ) with rookie jock A . Martin aboard . A winner first asking in The Song Starring Handicap -Stk week 2874 , she has been in a slump since then … even giving a try on the grass last time out . She returns to the main track this week in search for a career revival in graded company . Stalking style may be the key for this filly and may make the difference .
In post 5 at 8 / 1 is DJ’s Aptimism ( Aptitude x Miswaki x Riverman ) representing the stables of trainer Djones4321 and ridden by slick veteran jock N . Trumbull . This classically bred filly won first asking and is GI placed with 3 starts under her belt . Her last start in Ohio week 2965 in the Buckeye Juvenile – G III was over this same distance and resulted in a career effort of 86 SP . She loves to Deep close but her trainer might wanna keep her a bit closer to the pace today among this field .
In post 6 at 12 / 1 is Slithering ( Fantastic Light x Danzig x Alysheba ) from the stables of trainer Batesy with track sensation N . Gardner in control . Winning at first asking , this filly has run this distance in graded company already nearly catching the winner in week 3000 Camlaw Stakes – G II coming from waaaaayyy deep to finish second . In my opinion she will improve off her last start and will be a force at the wire today .
In post 7 is Star of the North ( Seeking the Gold x Northern Dancer x Seattle Slew ) at 13 / 1 from trainer Snappa5 stable and ridden by sly rookie A . Cummings . A winner second asking on a switch from turf to dirt , this filly has been switching from Alw to Stakes company of late . She has yet to break into the win column when in stakes company and today will be a credible test to her racing prowess .
In post 8 at 10 / 1 representing trainer Lasthope is Clout ( Storm Cat x Seeking the Gold x Alydar ) with reliable journeyman jock O . Sweeney in the irons . She has won 2 of her 4 starts this season including a stakes win over 8 furlongs week 2951 in Mexico’s The Her Rukus Bonanza -Stk 1:37:3/5 81 SP . This filly can’t make up her mind whether she likes to deep close or stalk … it’s anyone’s guess where she will be this week when the starting gate opens and the dash for turn one commences . Her breeding indicates she might like 9 furlongs better so the jump of 1 / 16 from her last race might just be the spark to the ignition .
In post 9 at 16 / 1 is Prospectors Appeal ( Bionic Prospect x Gone West x Valid Appeal ) representing Pmjstable , winning newcomer S . Adams gets the nod . A winner last 2 races at 8 furlongs , she makes the jump to 8.5 this week in graded company . A jet set filly this year , she has taken on fields in the Middle East , Japan and Europe as well as U.S class . She definitely loves to stalk and today should be no different … an 88 SP last time out week 3000 could be an indication of the maturation process coming home for this filly .
In post 10 is trainer Claimfame filly Promiscuous Girl 8 / 1 ( Afleet Alex x Stormin Fever x Gone West ) with veteran jock S . Sims aboard . This filly won first asking and has 2 wins out of three starts to date including her last trip week 3000 in The AliceNWonderland Bonanza -Stk over a mile in 1:36:3/5 90 SP . The fastest time among this field over this distance to date , she is being overlooked by the betting public and makes the trip from Ontario for her first graded appearance .
In post 11 at 7 / 1 is Moreover ( More than Ready x Seeking the Gold x Vice Regent ) representing trainer Hollyyih and ridden by journeyman Q . Boutie . This undefeated filly is on a tear this year with 2 stakes wins on her resume’ . Her lastr win came by a shelling of a week 3000 field in The Wretched Charger Special-Stk over 7.5 furlongs 1:30:2/5 89 SP . She makes a jump in distance and class today in a Herculean effort to keep her unblemished record intact . She has improved off every start to date and if that happens today as well she might be wearing a garland of flowers in the winners circle after the dust settles .
In post 12 at 7 / 1 is the Lopickles trained Yamazakura ( Mineshaft x Deputy Minister x Mr. Prospector ) ridden by crafty youngster L Sutton today . She won her first 2 races this year in similar style yet the jump to graded company has her lacking in effort . She ran today’s distance last time out week 3000 where she attempted wiring a G II field resulting in a 3rd place finish in the Camlaw Stakes – G II . Running right off the leader at .90 jockey setting might be the trick for this filly but she certainly likes her head out front no doubting that . She has a lot of heart and class and she has a brilliant career ahead of her .
In post 13 is Frilly Gone Wild 12 / 1 ( Oroentate x Came Home x Wild Again ) representing trainer Darylboalt and ridden by journeyman jock W. Desitter . After winning her second race she has wasted no time in any class lower than Stakes company resulting in 1-2-1 in such company . This week she makes a jump up in graded class for the first time and stretches 1/16 of a mile farther than she has ever run . Her last win came by a week 2965 wire to wire romp in The Adana Stakes -Stk over a mile in 1:37:1/5 84 SP . A graded win today will validate her bid for the premeir races coming up nest season .
In the far outside post 14 is Exile in Guyville 10 / 1 ( Spinning World x Seattle Slew x Forty Niner ) trained by Super7 and ridden by winning journeyman R . Mansur in today’s feature . She came out shooting winning her first 2 races and took a second week 2874 in the Vermont BB Juvenile Filly – G II . Since then she has been improving yet not shining nearly as bright as one might have thought she would . Two back 2 back G I races brings her back to G II company this week in an attempt to resurrect a foundering career in jeopardy of a tail spin .
