Bargain Bowl Preview
One difference you will notice here in the Bargain Bred Racing Series is that many of the top runners from last year are back to defend titles this year and in many cases are the favorites in their races. This is the final set of Bargain Bred Racing Series races of the year. The series will continue next year so keep breeding those bargains. We have a few full fields this year so lets get to the races.
Race: 3042.1114 The Bargain Classic – Stakes – $500,000
Track:
Restrictions: All horses, 3 years old and up
Distance: A mile and three sixteenths on the Dirt
Hustling Hoosier is once again the favorite in this race. He earned his first stakes win taking last year’s Bargain Classic by three lengths. Prior to that he had placed in some stakes and since then he has placed in several more, won a listed stakes and earlier this summer took the Bargain Summer Classic. He seems well positioned to remain undefeated in bargain restricted races and continue his dominance over this division.
Blind Mix (IRE) ran third behind Hustling Hoosier in the Bargain Summer Classic. He seems to be in good form since then although he only has one win since then. His speed figures have been solid in allowance company and he might be the biggest threat to the favorite. Address the Green is a new comer to the series. He sprinted for a while before stretching out. Since then he has been running pretty well at this distance and a little further. His experience at the longer distance and his stalking running style makes him a contender here.
Race: 3042.1113 The Cougar Bite Classic – Stakes – $250,000
Track:
Restrictions: All horses, 3 years old and up
Distance: A mile and one quarter on the Turf
This raced in named for Cougar Bite a dual grade I winner and bargain bred millionaire. Cougar Bite raced for Pedroza.
Just nine runners but a very competitive field led by the Bargain Arc winner Ankaline. In the Bargain Ark he went to the lead and made every pole a winning one winning by three lengths. He does have a listed stakes win to his credit earlier this year. He got broke his maiden in a $13,500 maiden claimer and once claimed by Jdoggtx he has six wins. The only negative might be that he comes off a bit of a layoff but that could be good for his front running style.
Pepe’s Pipes also had humble beginnings breaking his maiden in a $10,000 race. Last year he had a great year for any horse let alone a bargain runner. He won the G3 King George, before string together a three race win streak that included the last years Bargain Arc, Cougar Bite Classic and topping that run off with a G1 win on Delpenn Champions day. This year he has seemed to have slowed down a bit. His last four races have been in the Bargain Bred Racing Series at different distances and surfaces. His last two in longer turf races he has a pair of thirds. Maybe the cut back from a two mile race back to this distance gives him the needed boost to successfully defend his title.
Bubba Jess is the winner of this years Wombat Cup (bargain Melbourne Cup). Prior to that he had picked up a listed stakes win. He adds to the speed of this race as all three runners I have mentioned like to be near the pace. The young three year old here looks to upset his older rivals.
Stakes winners Clearance Clarence and Gallic Charm (FR) are also in this field of solid bargain turf runners.
Race: 3042.1112 The Cemetery Winter Distaff – Stakes – $250,000
Track:
Restrictions: Fillies and mares, 3 years old and up
Distance: A mile and one eighth on the Dirt
This race by named by Winterhart. Winter put together the very nice banners for the race series. Thanks Winter.
Trainer Jdoggtx has the favorite in this race his second morning line favorite in the series. Piebald Maze has yet to win a Bargain Bred Racing Series race but this year she has finished second against the boys and third on the turf which is not her preferred distance. She was injured in last years running of this race so just about anything would be an improvement this time around. She is capable of the 100+ speed figure and likes the distance. She will likely be sitting off the pace today and should be full of run in the lane.
Dodge the Vicar is undefeated in Bargain Bred races. She won last year’s Charlie’s Tiger Juvenile beating the boys. She came back in the spring and took it to the boys again winning the Bargain Derby by two and a half lengths. She added a listed stakes after that run and has been solid all summer. Her form might be a bit off but dropping in against bargains at a distance she has had success with could mean a quick turn around in form and a threat to Piebald Maze.
Cat N Fiddle came out of nowhere last year to win this race and is back to defend her title. She has been solid this year with a couple of allowance wins. Her recent form is not the greatest but it was not the greatest last year either. Respect the lady she is one of those that shows up on big race days.
Race: 3042.1111 The Vimes Turf Distaff – Stakes – $125,000
Track:
Restrictions: Fillies and mares, 3 years old and up
Distance: A mile and three sixteenths on the Turf
Sticking with the sim trend of not as many fillies or mares that run longer turf races this race drew the shortest field of the day. Not a Moo Cow is the even money favorite and could be tough to beat. Last year she came into this race in much the same way after a G3 win prior to last years running. This year she a listed stakes race and a win in the Bargain Princess over the summer. She is a stalker and if she is herself she is the most likely winner of the day.
Over
The Sun King is turning around on one week of rest and since finding form at the claiming level she has been solid in starter allowances. She is a breeding from the Breeding Corner from an older sire who more times than not produces sprinters. If things fall apart she has a chance.
Race: 3042.1110 The Kaif Mile – Stakes – $125,000
Track:
Restrictions: All horses, 3 years old and up
Distance: One mile on the Turf
Far Beyond the Sun is the favorite here off of some very nice runs in allowance company. Last year was a bit similar as he had some good allowance runs before running a dull sixth in this race. He has changed trainers twice since last years race and since trying the dirt a few races back he has found new form. He has finished second his last two time out but with speed figures of 96 and 103. That makes him a solid favorite here.
Cash Threshold is the second favorite. He ran third in this race last year and since then has run with solid results in higher level claimers. His last run was in the Arc de Maleleve where he ran at a longer distance finishing fifth. At a mile he is a pretty tough customer so keep an eye on him.
All About Change has been a very solid dirt mile allowance horse his entire career. Now he picks an interesting spot to see if he likes the turf. He has sort of a turf running style falling well behind early in races with a nice closing kick. His pedigree leads one to believe he can handle the turf, he is one to watch.
Last year’s winner Grove Master snuck up on the field last year and could very well do the same thing here. He has not been in good form this year probably racing above his head. A strong run in a $5,000 claimer last time out where he earned a 95 speed figure might put him into contention here again.
Race: 3042.1109 The Tale Of Two Places Sprint- Stakes – $125,000
Track:
Restrictions: All horses, 3 years old and up
Distance: Six furlongs on the Dirt
This race was named for the bargain bred runner Tale of Two Places. Tale of Two Places ran for Nextbonus and was a grade II and grade III winner. He also placed in a grade I on his way to earning over one million in purses.
A full field of fourteen take to the track this year in the sprint. Random Numbers is the favorite. He has got five wins this year in the allowance and claiming ranks. He is coming out of a GR Simster event last time out where he may have been in over his head. Now he drops back in class a but and for a runner that is pretty consistent he makes a good favorite.
Briefly Impossible (IRE) is the second favorite. He has really stepped up his game this year running well in starter allowances before taking the Claiming Jewel Sprint. He has a solid allowance win two back and a win here in the Tale of Two Places would top off a pretty good year. He likes to stalk the pace and should be prominent early.
Northshire Abbey is the third favorite. This solid bargain has nearly earned one hundred thousand in purses. His only appearance in the bargain series so far was this summer where he finished a close up fourth. None of the runners from that race made it back to race here today. He has a listed stakes win this year earning a 102 speed figure. He has been running well hitting the board at the allowance level and should make an impact here this weekend.
Race: 3042.1108 The Delta Tiger Sprint – Stakes – $125,000
Track:
Restrictions: Fillies and mares, 3 years old and up
Distance: Six furlongs on the Dirt
This race only had ten entrants last year and this year we have a full field of fourteen. One of our co favorites is the winner and favorite of this race last year. Chance For Delta was a two time stakes winner at two. She would go on to take the Bargain Oaks over a mile and then this same race last year. She has been running well this year although she only has one win. She has been right in the thick of things hitting the board many times. She locked horns with her co favorite in the Sugar and Spice for bargain breds. Standing Around managed to hold her off by a quarter length but maybe with a little more pace pressure Chance for Delta can turn the tables. These top two also faced each other in the Bargain Oaks last year, a rivalry worth watching. She comes form off the pace and should be there in the end.
Standing Around has been an outstanding bargain sprinter. She hit the ground running winning six of her first seven starts. Last year she went against the boys in the Tale of Two Places and smoked them. She picked up a listed stakes win over the summer and has won her last two races. She is fresh coming into this race, having not raced since the Sugar and Spice. She is a front runner and if she gets the lead she will be hard to catch.
Shaadi Deal is the third choice on the morning line. This three year old filly has gone from claimer to impressive allowance winner in her last five races. She was no factor in this year’s Bargain Oaks but has started to put things together in recent weeks. She posted a 97 speed figure last out and that is plenty fast enough to knock off the top two, although class is on their side.
Race: 3042.1107 The Silent Witness Sprint – Stakes – $125,000
Track:
Restrictions: All horses, 3 years old and up
Distance: Five and one half furlongs on the Turf
Eleven runners take to the track for the Silent Witness. The turf sprint is likely to be dominated by the ladies. The favorite is Keukenhof a five time stakes winner including the Bargain Turf Sprint this summer. She is a front runner and led that race gate to wire. She took some time off after that victory and won an allowance in her next start but stumbled two weeks ago in another allowance race. She is classy and has speed so that makes her dangerous.
Last year’s winner and second favorite is Starinsky. She is a graded placed six time stakes winner. Her worst race this year was the Bargain Turf Sprint. Since then she has regained a bit of form but was down a bit last time out finishing fifth is stakes company. She is best when stalking but won this race going go the lead last year. Lots of class she should be a factor here.
Scratched Up is a colt taking on a couple of classy fillies. He does not have the back class of the top two runners but he has been in good form most of the year running well enough to compete with these ladies. He probably needed his last race coming off a bit of a layoff and should be primed for a good run here from well off the pace.
Race: 3042.1115 The Charlie’s Tiger Juvenile- Stakes – $125,000
Track:
Restrictions: All horses, 2 years old
Distance: Seven furlongs on the Dirt
This race was named for bargain runner Charlie’s Tiger. She was a grade I winner on an Equinics day. She earned over half a million in purses running for Nickesyd.
A full field of juveniles take to the dirt course in
Rhapsodes has hit the board in all four of her starts with two wins. Her last race was an impressive one in an allowance where she stayed closer to the pace and pulled away in the stretch to win by a length and a half while posting an 84 speed figure.
Edgar Winter is a lightly raced colt with just two races. He won in his first start and last time out he pressed the pace all the way getting caught in deep stretch He stretches out a bit this time and could be part of the pace here. He looks like a runner that could continue to improve and put himself in a position to win.
Race: 3042.1116 The Class Ack Juvenile – Stakes – $125,000
Track:
Restrictions: All horses, 2 years old
Distance: Seven furlongs on the Turf
Class Ack was a dual grade I winner. He won an Equinics race as well as another grade I as a three year old and has earned over $800,000 in purses for Wahoo.
Another full field of juveniles takes to the turf course led by a somewhat heavy favorite in Gonzo. Gonzo has run seven times already this year and his last race was probably his best. He ran a good second in stakes company last time out coming from off the pace earning an 81 speed figure the best in the field. He has two wins including an allowance. On experience alone he seems to have this field measured.
Mujastrophic since finding the turf this filly is undefeated. She had five runs on the dirt before moving over to the turf. When moved she broke her maiden by almost three lengths. She came out in an allowance next time out and professionally stalked the pace, moved to the leader in the stretch and got by them in deep stretch for the win. Her speed figures are not as good as the favorite but they are not that far off either. Now she seems to be on her best surface and looks dangerous if she can improve a bit.
Jacobite Diego is the third choice on the morning line. She has run five times with some solid speed figures. She has four turf starts and has hit the board in three of those events. She has been racing at a mile in her last two races so she is cutting back in distance here. That could be an angle that gives her that boost to compete with the favorites.
There in an interesting long shot. 16/1 and still a maiden El Condo Passa is interesting. Her first race was on a yielding turf surface where she did not perform well. Next time out she faced the boys on the dirt and came out needing a break. She gets that break is put back on the turf on a firm surface and boom she stalks the paces and misses by a head earning a 76 speed figure. The surface is firm here if she improves a bit she could pull off the upset.
