Coxless Stakes Grade1

The annual running of The Coxless Stakes is this week. A full field of fourteen meet the judge here for this Grade 1 $1,000,000 race. Over 10f for all runners 3 yrs and up. It’s a great field consider the amount of grade1 racing of late. Lets take a look at the runners .

PP1 CEPHAS(IRE) IAMPROFIT 15/1

Looks like a runner who loves the distance . Has been racing mostly in allowance company and performing very well. ROCK OF GIBRALTAR(IRE) 5yrold who has won 9 from 39 and $594,000 . Versatile runner who will close from rear of field late.

PP2 HEADLONG THUNDERMAN 7/1

Lightly raced but well performed runner. Winner of 9 from 13 .This 4yrold son of PULPIT look every bit the top classic horse . Won over this distance in the G2 Kakarazuka Tinen Cup in Japan in 2:01 with a 104sp. Will run on or just behind pace and come home over the last furlong.

PP3 RED THEATRE(IRE) PHILLIPJ 24/1

Well performed a shorter distances and may find this a little harder in G1 company. Bred in the purple this son of MONTJEU(IRE) should be ready to run a decent middle distance .Take on trust here.

PP4 TWOKSIX DENDRO 28/1

3yrold who has only race 7 times for 3 wins .Another yet to run over distance He is by the lightly tried stallion NITE DREAMER who seems to produce good staying horses. Will sit just off pace in this one and hope to have kick in straight.

PP5 SAVAGE FRONTIER HUSKY 17/1

Best runs have been at this distance mixing form a bit but has been good enough to place in graded and stakes races many times. Far and away the best performed progeny of ESPERERO and has done him proud with 7 wins and $447,000. Midfield runner.

PP6 CAUSES WOOD(IRE) RUBY7 5/1

4^TH ranked turf classic horse .Will be one of the runners to beat here. Multiple grade winner who has collected over $2millon and 15 wins. A son of GIANT’S CAUSEWAY(IRE) he won the Premium Jockey Guild Stakes G3 last time out in Italy runner 104sp . May well lead them here if not should sit just off pace.

PP7 BALERION KHALASAR 8/1

4yrold son of MINSHAFT who’s ranking of #5 on turf is well deserved won Movieland Turf Cup -G1 over this distance 4 starts ago and has also added 2 stakes win in last 3 starts .runs on pace and will take some catching.

PP8 CREEPSHOW(IRE) LENNY28 11/1

#1 ranked 3yrold tries his luck against all comers for 1^st time here . Will watch with interest in how he handles the older graded runners. His efforts to date would suggest he is up to it . Recent wins include THE SYDNEY DERBY TRAIL over 10f in a 102sp and THE JUST AWESOME CHALLENGE STAKES over 10f with a 96sp .Deep closer who will be doing his best work at the end of race.

PP9 SKILLS IN MAGIC PEEPS9 9/1

3yrold DENON colt ranked #4 turf classic colt .Won Big Red Stakes -G1 3 starts back over 10f 105sp looks like this is his best distance and takes on the older horses at the right time of year .Another of the million $ earners in this field and 8 wins from 18 starts says he’s a real threat at better odds here. Another deep closer who will make for thrilling stretch run worth going a long way to see.

PP10 TOWN PRINCE(IRE) QUITTER 10/1

Another of the top class 3yrolds contesting this race ranked #6 in his age group he will add to puzzle here . Ran an astounding 108sp last time out over this journey in the Early Months Stakes -G2 in NSW also winner of SMACKDOWN 11 in 106 3 starts ago. By BALLINGARRY (IRE) he has the advantage of racing just off pace so will wont have to spend a penny till late in race.

PP11 SIP OF SAKI BJBANDIT2 5/1

The omen bet after this weeks win by Japanese horse in THE MELBOURNE CUP. Rarely tried at this distance but won Fernazzle Classic Cup-G3 last season. Great miler who may use his speed to his advantage. Solid performer of late and at 5/1 odds will take beating in this.

PP12 SILVERSHAFT LENNY6 16/1

Another 3yrold by MINESHAFT who placed in a G3 10f race two starts ago with a 107sp. Tried 12f last time out but found it a little to far in G1 company will be better suited here.

PP13 GOOD TO BE KING SUPER21 11/1

From the powerful Super Stables Group comes this son of SMARTY JONES. Providing his sire with a top classic 3yrold 1^st time around. Best pointer to this race must be his 2^nd’s in the Boston Derby -G2 and Californian Turf Classic in his last 3 starts. This colts future looks bright and is the one to take for those looking for a bit more value. Will race midfield or behind .

PP14 KING OF KILMORE(AUS) DEYOTO3 9/1

Upholding the honour of the local breeding industry is this fine brown colt by LONHRO (AUS) . Has won or been placed in 16 of his 22 starts and that consistency may be rewarded here with at least a place chance in strong field . Has not tried this distance for some time but breeding suggests that should be no problem. Will race handy to pace.
