Talented Pool of Eight Face Off in ‘The FORM SMILING CHALLENGE’
Six furlongs
Firm Turf
$65,000
All horses, 3 years old and up
When the opportunity for a stakes level sprint event on the turf arises, one can bet that it will draw a nice field of competitors. This premise is proven true again this Saturday at Carolina Downs– where a good field of turf sprinters are showing up for the running of the ‘The FORM SMILING CHALLENGE’.
Below is a rundown of the eight entries:
PP1 | GRAND GRACE | Owner-dade | Jockey-B Mills | Odds-6/1 |
This Red Ransom x Spectacular Bid five year old brings a two race (allowance restricted) winning streak into this event. He will be attempting to record his first career stakes victory.
PP2 | BACK DOOR MAN | Owner-blueribbon | Jockey- D Esperado | Odds-6/1 |
Five wins and a ‘place’ finish in this Not For Love x Vice Regent three years old colt. After a successful start on the dirt, he has really flourished with a switch to the grass. The FORM SMILING Challenge will be this talented competitor’s first run against the older boys. He is talented, and likes to press the lead-but, may feel the pressure from others throughout the trip.
PP3 | MY MIRACLE | Owner-unostable | Jockey-K Naber | Odds-3/1 |
After only 20 starts, this(Gone West x Icecapade) four year old is only a few dollars from becoming a “half-millionaire” purse earner. Inked out a quarter length win in his last outing, and should be considered a serious challenger in this event. Having the track’s leading jockey onboard makes him an even stronger selection.
PP4 | STORMING SAL | Owner-lacostra | Jockey-A Brothers | Odds-4/1 |
A former Gr. I and Gr. II winner on the turf, this Storm Cat x Danzig colt is aiming at getting back to his winning ways, after two disappointing loses. Both of the loses were close, and he should not be discounted after either performance.
PP5 | BARB’S BETTY ANNE | Owner-radarmansn | Jockey-T Mofit | Odds-16/1 |
This three year (Gulf Storm x Pentelicus) ships in from D.C., after a seventh place finish in his last race. This field appears too talented from him to finish in the money.
PP6 | MACHIAVELLIAN WAR | Owner-poppop2 | Jockey-BC Sprague | Odds-9/1 |
Ran big in last outing (6f on the turf in
PP7 | ERGREGIOUS | Owner-acre11 | Jockey-Eastman | Odds-4/1 |
A four year old out of Rory’s Jester x Greek Answer– will receive some attention from the handicappers. He has shown abilities in the past that could put him on top in this event.
PP8 | MR XYZ | Owner-andycapper | Jockey-N Stalker | Odds-9/2 |
This five year old (Capote x Vice Regent) ran poorly in his last outing, so ownership would like to toss it aside and look at the two consecutive stakes victories in the recent past as an indication of this colt’s abilities. He is the morning lines fourth selection, but he will be my win selection. A crowd out of the gate on the lead should work to his “stalking” running style.
No doubt, this is a nice talented field of runners for the The FORM SMILING CHALLENGE. At some time or other, most of this field has displayed abilities that could earn them a photo in the winner’s circle at
My selection will be 8 – 3 – 6
