Highroadtonothing Early Favorite
In post one is Whistle On By (8/1) a 3 YO filly by Smarty Jones. Owned and trained by Be1stfarms, she has notched three wins and has only been off the board once in her last eight starts. However, only one of those was a win and she doesn’t seem to be able to handle the class jump. She is a closer and will need something to run at, as well as some racing luck.
Izaquirre (11/1) is a 5 YO veteran mare by Treasure Cove. She is conditioned by Hoofers and has six wins from 51 starts. This may be a bit far for her although it is said that the longer races are easier on old legs and this mare has started enough times that wear and tear is going to kick in sooner rather than later. She doesn’t know that and is quite consistent at this point in her career. She comes in off a 4th place finish last time out in The Memphis Force at 10 furlongs.
Dumptruck will saddle Red Tabasco (3/1) a 4 YO filly by Bucksplasher. One of the top jocks picked this one to ride and she has won five of her 18 starts. She was a winner two back in an owner restricted stake and was second in Grade II, The Lil’ Drummer Boy. She’s got the class to pull off a win here.
Highroadtonothing (3/2) is the favorite on the morning line and the 4 YO daughter of High Chaperral certainly deserves it. Conditioned by Bagpuss, she has three stakes win’s showing and has won exactly 1/3 of her 30 races. While she has been competing at shorter distances, with her breeding, she should be fine here on Saturday. She has some top speed figures and has a 4th place finish in The Grade II, Independence Day Breeder’s Bowl against tougher, making her the one to beat.
Trainer Chapman will send out the 3 YO filly, Angela (7/2) by Medaglia D’Oro. She is lightly raced, with only 14 starts, but she has won four of those. She went wire to wire to capture The Utter Seattle at seven furlongs five back so she may find herself on the lead Saturday. She tired down the lane last time out in The Mother Wendy but she should be fitter this time around.
On the outside will be Bet The Flop (4/1) a lovely 3 YO filly by Awesome Again. She has won five of 19 and went gate to wire last time out in a mile allowance. In her only start at this distance she tired to finish third in The Granny Wet and with her sped she may find herself in a speed duel with Angela. She is owned and trained by 40oz
Good Luck to all.
