Spotlight Race of the Day: Ireland Claim 9/9

A field of ten colts will take on the Ireland track in a one mile dirt race with fast conditions.   The race is a claiming event and shoppers can pick up one of these runners for the bargain price of only $5,000.  Interestingly, many runners are doing the turf to dirt shuffle.

1.  Our Graywolf  6/1-After souring out on the turf this guy jumps back to the dirt, a place he’s only raced twice and earned a second in his maiden days.  Drops to lowest level of career and looks for a turnaround with results.

2.  Storm Passion  7/1-Finishing in last in two most recent turf starts this guy goes back to dirt where he last ran back in March and finished second with 87 speed at $12.5k claimers.  Dirt may be better suit for him and surface change could yield better results.

3.  German Fighter  9/2-Dropped into $3,500 claim and on turf in last and never was a factor in race.  Back to dirt and mile distance which he won in similar conditions in early August with a 91 speed.  Dangerous here.

4.  Over The Threshold  12/1-Off the board finishes in last four starts going a variety of distances on the dirt, primarily in low level races.  Speeds have been mid-70 range and enhancement on these numbers are necessary to take this event.

5.  Blind Grit  12/1-Ran ultra short 4.5 furlong on good dirt surface and longer 11 furlong on poly surface on Italy track in last two starts.   Was not a contender in either of the races.  Tries fast dirt surface this time and unlikely to improve.

6.  Dream Comeback  4/1-Claimed in $10k claimer race in May and took a three month rest which resulted in a claiming race win at 7.5f with best speed of 94 followed by a third in allowance with 82 speed.   Back to claimers and could make a comeback here.

7.  World of War  8/1- Broke maiden in first start of 2015 but this front running horse has had difficulty earning a second one.   Flipped over to turf sprint in last and really did not care for surface.  Comes back to the soil and maybe he’ll respond to the change.

8.  Seigi  4/1- Ran decent fourth in more pricey $35k claimer in early May charting a strong 92 speed.  Three weeks later he dropped to $10k claimers and speed dropped to 77 finishing well off the board.  Gets under 2 weeks rest so form can be a concern.

9. High Kip  6/1- Speed numbers have been moving upward since June, topping off at 87 in most recent start which was over this track.   Tends to tail off at end of races in final furlong so stamina needs to be at best.

10.  Off The Radar  27/1- This runner has been sidelined since February and is looking to make comeback in hopes of improved results after hanging out at the farm.  When last seen, he had been racing in small fields with speeds in mid-70 range.  He drops out of allowance class for his return and the class relief could be beneficial.

German Fighter has been on board 3 of last 4 dirt starts and speed in last mile dirt run is good enough to get top spot.

Dream Comeback returns to claiming level, gets second choice.

Off The Radar back after long layoff at steep odds, I’ll take a chance on him.

I was looking through my results and was like: “Why is there an article about this race?”. Well of course it’s Roxy’s Spotlight Race Of The Day! Good writeup, I’m not very careful with my low claimers.
