On what is Caulfield Cup weekend in real life in Victoria, in Sim we see the running of the BEARLY WITH ZACH STAKES. A sprint over 6.5 furlongs on turf for all horses 2 years old. Lets have a look at them.
1 – STAR CASINO S.(IRE) 5/2 – Absolutely flew in his restricted maiden win and has since been placed in Stakes company over further ground. In this up to his ears.
2 – ONYA MATE 12/1 – Has yielded mixed results in stakes company since winning his maiden, his best was a nose second over 6f. Needs to produce his best here and if he does he’ll be thereabouts.
3 – EASE THE SMOKE 9/2 – Had two great wins before a nice 3rd in his stakes debut. The only query is if this is too short! If Not he may be hard to toss.
4 – SPURCTACULAR(AUS) 6/1 – Had won 3 from 3 until a step up in distance saw him fail. If he is sharp enough back at this trip he will give this an almighty shake.
5 – GONZO 10/1 – Hasn’t really produced at his Stakes attempts thus far and would really need to turn it around sharply to be any chance in this. Gives the impression he may want a longer trip. An outsider here.
6 – MINERS LIGHT 6/1 – Ran a nice stakes 2nd after cracking his maiden and then stepped up in distance and class and failed, he is back to more familiar territory here and may be more competitive.
7 – GOLD PERCEPTION 5/1 – Looks the real value runner here. Although only a winner of one he has only missed a place once in 7 starts and after finally winning his maiden he ran a close 2nd in a 7.5f stakes race. If there is an upset this is the guy to do it.
8 – STORMY IS GONE 10/1 – A girl against the boys which is always hard for a 2yo. Has been good enough in past starts but may find it tough here. Will need to be at her very best to figure in the finish.
9 – KEYSTONE SONG 8/1 – Has been failing in mile allowance races since winning a 7f maiden. On that form it would be very hard to see him being competitive here. Will need a lot of luck.
So all in all this race is very open. I’m finding it hard to split them but I’ll go an upset and take 7-3-1-4 may be a good boxed trifecta.
