Fillies, 3 years old
We are here in Massachusetts in the fall and what more can you ask for in weather and autumn splendor. The leaves are changing and we are getting set to run down The SCARY MOVIE Grade III Special Stakes Race. It appears that the weather is going to be chilly but sunny, perfect for watching leaves and also for watching this nice field of young fillies including a couple of the very best that have struggled a bit lately. Let’s take a look:
1 – RUNNING SCARED(IRE) ODDS OWNER WIN% JOCKEY WIN% TOP SPEED AVG SPEED RANK 2/1 CrazyJoe 37.3% G.Garbaccio 18% 103.6 102.3 110
(EL PRADO(IRE) x ROBERTO x RAISE A NATIVE) Ten times in either first or second place in her twelve races should have the others running scared in this Stakes race. Trainer CrazyJoe has this filly fined tuned and flying with triple digit SPFs and Stakes wins. She needs to prove herself in the Graded arena though and this may be the place. Jockey Garbaccio is one of the best in the business with young fillies and should have a steady hand on the reins.
| 2 – LA SANTA CRUZ | ODDS | OWNER | WIN% | JOCKEY | WIN% | TOP SPEED | AVG SPEED | RANK |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 7/2 | SantaCruz3 | 13.4% | D.Ezelle | 12% | 99.1 | 92.7 | 20 |
(ALDEBARAN x MR. PROSPECTOR x DANEHILL) This nicely bred chestnut filly ran a real nice GIII two back at 7F and may not like this distance quite as much. Trainer SantaCruz3 wants to stretch her out just a bit but her prevous try at this length was on an off track and she didn’t like that much at all. She didn’t like a mile so it remains to be seen if she will take to this. She has Ezelle in the irons and he is a good one and should be able to save a little of this filly for the end.
| 3 – WARHEADS | ODDS | OWNER | WIN% | JOCKEY | WIN% | TOP SPEED | AVG SPEED | RANK |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 6/1 | SDMF5 | 31.7% | K.Moran | 7% | 95.5 | 95.2 | 170 |
(E DUBAI x VALID APPEAL x KEY TO THE MINT) Ten of fifteen in the money but this will be her first Graded outing. She seems to like this distance better but trainer SDMF5 should know as his gaudy win percentage certainly proves that he knows how to saddle them up. The big brown filly is still looking for her first Stakes win and it could be tough finding it amongst this company.
| 4 – SUPER GOLD | ODDS | OWNER | WIN% | JOCKEY | WIN% | TOP SPEED | AVG SPEED | RANK |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 6/1 | Super20 | 12.5% | S.Blade | 23% | 100.9 | 89.7 | 6 |
(SEEKING THE GOLD x NORTHERN DANCER x SEATTLE SLEW) One of the very best from last year with an amazing six wins in seven races, she’s found the going a little tougher this year with only two wins to date. She has really stumbled the last two and you have to wonder if last years grueling campaign is taking its toll. Trainer Super20 doesn’t think so and is trying to get his prized filly back on track. He has Blade in the saddle and he is one of the best at the track. That could help get her back on the board.
| 5 – SPIRIT OF AMERICA | ODDS | OWNER | WIN% | JOCKEY | WIN% | TOP SPEED | AVG SPEED | RANK |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 7/2 | Harvey | 8.8% | Q.Vett | 7% | 100.7 | 91.3 | 46 |
(A.P. INDY x MR. PROSPECTOR x KOIRO TRELAY(NZ)) This filly has really been racing consistently well all year but just can’t seem to find the winners circle. Top three in her past five races though and continuing to improve her speed figures. Trainer Harvey has done a nice job of keeping her sharp race to race and he pretty much knows what he will get from this filly with the big heart. Vett is holding the reins but has been struggling some this year. Hopefully he can break out of that here.
| 6 – THE NEUTRAL ZONE | ODDS | OWNER | WIN% | JOCKEY | WIN% | TOP SPEED | AVG SPEED | RANK |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 3/1 | Indigo1 | 27.3% | W.Alexander | 11% | 95.1 | 92.5 | 71 |
(PINE BLUFF x MISWAKI x LINE IN THE SAND) A track veteran at only the age of three, this filly already has 21 races under her girth. She has four firsts and five seconds this year in mostly allowances and Stakes races. Her couple of Graded outings have not been impressive but she sure looks like trainer Indigo1 has her ready for a breakout race. She has Alexander guiding her from the leather and he knows how to bring a young girl home. This could be their time to shine.
Morning Line = 1-6-2-5
Yoss Tipsheet = 1-6-2-5
Paz Picks = 1-6-2-5
A fairly even race with some really nice looking fillies, I like SPIRIT OF AMERICA to finish fourth. I hate to leave SUPER GOLD out of my picks but she has really been struggling so I’m taking her off my board. It looks like LA SANTA CRUZ is good enough for third and THE NEUTRAL ZONE should hold on for second. This close to Halloween, what better horse to pick to win than RUNNING SCARED . She looks like the class of this field.
Good luck to all runners!
