Big Race Recaps 2993
Did we just see a couple of Breeder’s Bowl winners take care of business last week? Not to mention some horses became instant contenders over night.
Race: 2993.0515 LA
Track:
Restrictions: All horses, 3 years old
Distance: A mile and one quarter on the Dirt
Divine Inspiration shocked the two favorites as he showed a new dimension and won going away. Divine Inspiration is a horse that has show a lot of speed thus far in his career. Today he stalked the pace in fourth almost four lengths off the early pace setters. When asked he moved up and assumed the lead powering into the stretch with a two and a half length lead. He made that stand up to win by two lengths over Genocide Junkies.
Genocide Junkies only managed to make up a half a length on the winner in the stretch. At nearly 14-1 he was an outsider anyway but turned a mid pack trip into a nice second place finish in this grade I. Ermington Pegasus was the only favorite that ran halfway decent. He ran the race he likes to run but he ran into a runner on fire today. This is just a prep for the big one so the Ermington camp got just about what they wanted from a prep race going into the Breeder’s Bowl.
Race: 2993.0416 Gallorette Handicap – Grade I – $500,000
Track:
Restrictions: Fillies and mares, 4 years old and up
Distance: A mile and one sixteenth on the Dirt
Wild Cat Tales did as expected and made short work of this field in a dominating fashion. The track turned out to be sloppy but that did not matter. Wild Cat Tales did what she likes to do sitting mid pack then closing with a rush. Not even the slop in
Wild Chick completed the “wild” exacta. She ran a really solid race sitting close to Wild Cat Tales in the early going. She tried to keep pace with Wild Cat Tales and did so most of the way. She gave up a little ground to the winner running a nice race.
It was a long way back to the third place finisher Big Ugly who finished eight lengths behind the winner. She was dead last in the early stages and even though she did not make up a lot of ground on the top two it more than any other runner could do.
Race: 2993.0114 Yellow Submarine Stakes – Grade I – $500,000
Track:
Restrictions: Fillies and mares, 3 years old and up
Distance: A mile and one quarter on the Turf
The race was not a real fast one but the favorite Dreaming of Love persevered over Getaloadofthis. This turned out to be quite a stretch run. The top two pace horse faded by the top of the stretch and the runners that had stalked that pace in third, Tommy, fourth, A.P. Andy, fifth, Getaloadofthis, and sixth, Dreaming of Love, all hit the top of the stretch noses apart.
Tommy was the first to drop out. The other three battled to deep stretch where A.P. Andy lost a little ground and left the to two to butt heads in the final yards. Dreaming of Love prevailed in a photo finish over Getaloadofthis. A.P. Andy finished third a length back and Tommy was fourth four length behind the winner.
Race: 2993.5415 Mospe Cup – Grade I – $600,000
Track:
Restrictions: All horses, 3 years old
Distance: One mile on the Turf
Hail Cesario romped to victory by two and a quarter lengths. Coming into the race he had some of the best speed figures Hail Cesario took his normal place near the back of the pack. When asked he closed ground around the turn for home and exploded into the stretch. He was a man among the boys through the stretch making up five and a half lengths on the pace setter and putting another couple of lengths on the second place finisher.
Vermont Victory tried to turn a mid pack stalking trip into a victory. After sitting seventh early on he has never very far off the pace. He has moved up to third by the top of the stretch and was picking up the chase on the pace setter Ride for Show (IRE). Vermont Victory ran a nice race good enough to win grade I races but it was not to be today. Ride for Show (IRE) set the pace was a bear in the stretch while tiring finishing third three and three quarter lengths behind the winner.
