MENDELA Wins 2nd Consecutive Stakes in Portugal

The OH SAY MAEVE Special Stakes
Seven and half furlongs on Firm Turf
$50,000
Fillies, 2 years old

Most of the race looked like the uneven formations of a High School band as the horses were strung nearly across the track in a back and forth line this weekend at the OH SAY MAEVE Special Stakes in Portugal. In the end it was Irish bred MENDELA who was the “Band Leader” and took a nice step forward in her young career. Trainer BossRoss has to be really happy about this Alberto Giacometti offspring. MENDELA has now won two consecutive Stakes races and looks like the real deal. She is nearing $100,000 in earnings and has moved into the top 50 in the rankings. It appears that she may be ready to tackle even longer distances which would open up more possibilities for her.

At the beginning of the race, HIP HOP GIRLIE jumped out to the early lead but it was tenuous at best as there was a line across the track of four horses within a length. They pretty much jostled back and forth throughout the race with SEALED WITH A KRIS and SHADAR eventually moving up to finish behind our leader. After the winner, the next five fillies finished within two lengths of each other in a competitive race.

BossRoss will now be planning where to take his filly next to try and keep that consecutive Stakes streak alive or move to the Graded arena. I think she will be successful either way.

Good luck to all runners!
