One of my favorite things is watching young fillies take on the turf. We have a really exciting and evenly matched race here that is really anyone’s chance to win. All of these trainers know how to win as well with a couple of pretty gaudy win percentages. It all boils down to a great way to spend a Saturday afternoon. Let’s take a look:

(SKY MESA x EL GRAN SENOR x MR. PROSPECTOR) The morning line favorite has finished first in two of three and finished a strong third in her last outing which was her fist Stakes race. Trainer KingCugat has brought her along nicely and she may be ready to make a statement here. He has to be wondering about her distance preference as she dropped back a little in her first try at 6 furlongs. By the way, I love the name!

( SAKHEE x KINGMAMBO x WARNING(GB) If you throw out the one dirt try, this girl has won three of five races and is pretty darn good. They also happened to be the last three races and she keeps on improving. This is the first time that trainer JWPop has thrown her into a Stakes race though but she has as fast an SPF as anyone in the race so her chances are good.

(FOOTSTEPSINTHESAND (GB) x EL PRADO(IRE) x NASHWAN) Already a Stakes winner and a four times Stakes vet, this filly with the long name took a step back last outing with a disappointing sixth place finish and a 61 SPF that had triainer Zeco7 left shaking his head. She had just made some nice improvement and now moved back a bit. Jockey Wyatt is in the stirrups and that should help as he is the best jockey at the track and knows how to handle these youngsters.

( DUBAI EXCELLENCE (GB) x PALACE MUSIC x SARATOGA SIX) So the big question is, can QUEENIE win in Queensland? I must admit that it doesn’t look too promising. She finally broke her maiden in her fourth race two back then threw a real stinker last time out on a muddy track which she obviously didn’t like. Trainer Billy3Shoe must know something as he has moved her up to the Stakes level but it will be interesting to see if it comes to fruition.

(LAMMTARRA x MILL REEF x LYPHARD) This girl loves the lead and should definitely be leading this race at the first turn. Whether she can hold on, especially at the longest distance she has run remains to be seen. She is in the capable hands of both jockey Pierce and trainer 7CardStud so it is hard to bet against them but you have to wonder if she will like the added distance.

(DUBAWI (IRE) x IN EXCESS(IRE) x GONE WEST) There are so many Shelbys around here it looks like a Mustang convention. This one looks like she may have that kind of horsepower. She has made huge improvements in every race she has run for trainer MindBlower and if they can keep that up, they will win going away. Cox is in the irons and will help that along as he is one of the better jockeys out here. A trio that is looking good to hit the board.

(LEROIDESANIMAUX (BRZ) x STRAVINSKY x TOP VILLE(IRE)) This filly has to be driving trainer Dolphin crazy as she can’t seem to decide how she wants to run. Sometimes she likes to lead, last race she trailed. Her distances are hard to figure as well. Ah, the joy of two year olds. To top it off, they have drawn one of the coldest jockeys at the track in Zariz who is not only last in the alphabet. Could be a struggle here.

I must admit that this race is nearly impossible to handicap. There are too many questions that need answered. With that said, I pick SHELBY’S REIGN to finish fourth. I like SLIM KICKINS to hit the board in third and could actually do better. That leaves the BLUES DIVA to hold on for second by a neck. The young lady that is ready to make a statement to the racing world this week is one of the longer shots in the race, SHELBY SCORES . She looks like the real deal to me and could make her mark here.
