Somebody Will End Up With a Good Story After the WARM STORY Stakes

The WARM STORY Stakes is named after an 8 year old broodmare who never won a stakes race.  In fact, some of the two-year-old fillies running today have nearly matched her lifetime earnings, not to mention her unfortunate offspring thus far.  Let’s take a look at both the accomplished and barely tested horses in the field:

PP 1 – LET’S MAKE MONEY (Eavesdropper x Grand Slam x Forty Niner) – 2/1

Trainer madmoney got down on his knees and thanked his lucky stars when this horse won wire-to-wire in her debut.  Out of a stakes winning broodmare and a second-year sire with two stakes winning progeny already this year maybe that maiden win shouldn’t have come as such a surprise.  The furlong shorter distance looks like it should suit this filly as the pack closed in on her in the stretch last time out, however the class of her competition is much higher.  In future races I’d like to see this one try running from the back.

PP 2 – HAPPY CHAPPY(AUS) (King’s Chapel(AUS) x In Excess(IRE) x Quest for Fame(GB)) – 6/1

Trainer nickryan has got to be disappointed with these opening odds.  This filly ran a big 78SP last time out at this distance and on an off-track.  The drawback – that win was in a claiming race.  HAPPY prefers to run from the back, I’m not sure if that style will pay off with these quicker front-runners.  However, with his odds at 6/1 and that experience in the mud this could be a good bet.

PP 3 – D LION SLEEPS G (Lion Hearted x Woodman x Theatrical(IRE)) – 3/2

The near even favourite, trained by jgjg, has been sent out to win her third stakes race in a row.  At 6-4-1-1 this young filly has an impressive record.  Returning to a shorter distance seems to suit and this one also has a win on an off-track.  I won’t argue with the odds makers – this one will be tough to beat on race day.

PP 4 – MIRACLES (Not for Love x Boston Harbour x Meadowlake) – 8/5

Looks like trainer desertbear has a promising filly.  She’s run the fastest SP of the whole field and that was at this distance.  The only crutch is that she hasn’t faced an off-track, not something I would usually weigh very heavily, but in this case they’ll be running in the mud.  If she doesn’t mind being splashed for the first half of the race you’ll see this one racing down the stretch.

Although this is a short field it should prove to be an exciting run – and not because it’s a foursome of young girls romping in the mud!  I’m going to go with stakes and off-track experience and take 3-4-2, but this order could be easily altered by an improved race by LET’S MAKE MONEY.
