Getting it certainly does in the Freiermuth Stakes

It looked like a competetive race on paper, and certainly looked to be a hard call round the last turn, but Getting it actually made it look very easy down the straight. If there was a nice way for a filly to win a GIII race, this may well be it as Peter12’s talented but slightly frustrating type sat very comfortably tracking the leaders before easing past her field to win by a comfortable 2 3/4 lengths.

The race panned out as expected with the inside pair, Light Blinds and Beyond Lois making the early running. The advantage of the rails, and a real surfiet of early pace saw Light Blinds quickly pull 2 lengths clear of her field under a confident ride from M Mia. The race quickly settled into a pattern with Getting it and Bellafiga tracking the leading pair and the other 5 sitting just off the pace. Backers of Light Blinds must have been hopeful as she continued to pile on the pace extending the lead to nearly 3 lengths past the halfway mark and not being extended to keep the distance.

Beyond Lois found herself a bit tapped for foot round the last turn as Getting it responded to J Ventura letting out a quarter inch of rein, moving forward despite having to go the wide way round. It looked as though it would be between the front two for a few yards with Light Blinds responding well to her riders urgings to keep herself clear of her field, but then Ventura let out another reef and the result was beyond doubt. The pretty daughter of Dynaformer swept into the lead as they entered the straight and powered away by a length within a hundred yards. She never looked like slowing, and Light Blinds was forced to accept things pretty quickly keeping on at a decent pace without quickening.

Bellafiga kept on resolutely to pass both Light Blinds and Beyond Lois, who in turn managed to ease herself into third and with nothing really making any real headway from the chasing pack it was left to Generous Jewel to snatch the last money place. Can of Worms AS managed to hang on to the coattails of the front five, but the rest, including dissapointing favourite Jaca, were more than 10 lengths behind the leader.

All in all, it was a comfortable victory and a nice speed of 97, and it wouldn’t be a huge surprise to see the winner go on to win at a higher level. Anyone who backs her next time may not get such generous odds as 5.80 on future totes.
