Two Saint Liam colts leading contenders for the Time Of Death Bonanza
PP1 – Go Go Grouse Oh – Lapa3 – P. Kelly – 2/1 Spinning World / War Chant / Quiet American From the widespread 2yo “Grouse” operation of trainer Lapa and from the inside box comes this son of Spinning World. The second favourite`s only start came just over 4 weeks ago in the Italian capital of Athens where he made his debut in a 6f MSW. He was the oddsmaker`s pick that day and, after racing on the shoulder of the eventual winner throughout the race, he was beaten 3/4 of a length by a more experienced rival. With an SP of 84 and 9 lengths back to the third horse that form looks quite special and it would be of no great surprise to see him lose his maiden tag here. PP2 – Saint Peggy – Elesto4 – D. Aldridge – 7/2 Saint Liam / Fusaichi Pegasus / Miswaki The ill-fated freshman Saint Liam will have only 1 year to make his mark as a sire in the Sim and, judging by the success of his offspring so far, he is going to be sorely missed in the future. This lovely looking light grey colt was well fancied but beaten in a pair of MSWs over 5 and 6f to begin his career (both have worked out well) but then, when travelling over to Malaysia, he got off the mark at the third attempt and ran out the comfortable winner of a maiden LTO. He`ll be staying on at the finish here but may just lack the tactical speed of some of his rivals and he will be seen to better light over more distance. PP3 – Run On – Upsanddowns – Y. Mills – 9/1 Runaway Groom / Tiznow / Dixieland Band The best of trainer Upsanddowns` 2yos is this light grey son of the relatively cheap sire Runaway Groom. He had shown promise in all 3 of his MSW starts, including a place and a show, before finally tasting winning success LTO on his first try at an off-track. He will need to find improvement if he is to figure in this race but he is one to watch out for in future over further and possibly on turf.. PP4 – Gun Prospect – Snappa5 – H. Ly – 5/1 Mingun / Mr. Prospector / Le Fabuleux Freshman sire Mingun has been well covered already this year and this colt, out of a very lighty raced dam, has been one of his more successful sons. After winning an average MSW on his second start it was quite a surprise when, LTO in a 6.5f Stakes at this track, he led all the way and just held on from a former Grade 3 placed colt. The 76SP he posted there was a major improvement and, considering he has already shown a liking for this course, his early pace should see him just as effective over this half a furlong less. PP5 – Sundaytoofaraway – Airbiscuit – B. Hollier – 16/1 Sunday Break / Scatter The Gold / Dare And Go For around 80-90BPs Japanese sire Sunday Break often finds good runners on both surfaces and he fathers Airbiscuit`s charge who is making his racecourse debut here. He`s the rank outsider here and is best watched at this stage of his career. PP6 – Fourfortysixpack – Mrblacktie – T. Brewer – 3/2fav Saint Liam / Deputy Minister / Pine Bluff The second of the Saint Liams is this roan colt from the highly successful breeding operation of Mrblacktie`s stable. He immediately showed he had ability when landing his debut with a 79SP and then, 6 weeks later in Malaysia, making it 2 from 2 with an all the way win in the 6f Sam`s Truth Stakes (future G3 winner behind). LTO he was upped into Graded class where he was made favourite for a hotly contested 6f race in Spain and, after winning the battle for the early lead at the sun drenched Iberian track, he faded well inside the final furlong and finished a creditable 1 1/4l 3rd. He has the best form coming into this race and it is of no surprise to see him as the short priced favourite. Summary For a race named the “Time Of Death Bonanza” it is fitting to have two of Saint Liam`s offspring in here with big chances. Fourfourtysixpack looks like a colt going places, he has the best form out of all the runners and it is hard to look past him as the selection. In a race where the 3 main protagonists will look for an early lead, Saint Peggy should get the strong pace he`ll require. The doubt is if he will have the basic speed for this trip. Gun Prospect will be taken on for the lead here and he may struggle to keep up with them. He will need to find another SP improvement if he is to win. The maiden Go Go Grouse Oh looks the biggest danger to the selection. If he can go on from a hugely impressive debut he would be a major threat but his inexperience is a slight concern. 1 – Fourfourtysixpack 2 – Go Go Grouse Oh 3 – Saint Peggy
