Standing along the rail at Ascot we are getting set to run down the Filly Grand Prix Grade One Stakes Race for juvenile fillies. This mile long turf race looks to be on a fast and firm grass track and should be a blast to watch. We’ve got at least a half a dozen young ladies ready to make their mark. Let’s take a look:

(EL PRADO(IRE) x TOUCH GOLD x QUIET AMERICAN) Top 50 ranked filly that had a two race win streak broken in the KY Horsemen Debutante G! last time out when she finished fourth when she was passed at the wire as she was fading. Trainer WhoAmI2 has to wonder about the endurance of this young girl and if she wouldn’t be better off staying at the sprint level. Jockey Thomas has really been struggling this year but has a horse that should love the inside post and rail and hopefully will be able to hold them off at the finish this time. Love the name!

( KINGMAMBO x ELUSIVE QUALITY x ARCTIC TERN) This young lady has never missed the board but all three of her races were in Maidens which she broke last time out with a lackluster 58 SPF. She has never competed in anything but those maidens and has never run longer than seven and a half. Trainer Jarrod4 must feel that a bit more distance will straighten this girl out. We have our doubts and are afraid that she needs a little more seasoning before hitting the Graded circuit.

( ALMUSHTARAK (IRE) x MACHIAVELLIAN x THEATRICAL(IRE)) The morning line doesn’t treat this girl with much respect as she is the number three ranked filly and nearly won a GI last time out. She has never finished off the board in five races, two of those being Grade Ones. She had a nice 78 SPF last time out and seems to like the longer distances better. This may be one you want to jump on at the windows. I think that trainer SafRace5 has done a memorable job handling this girl and with Harzheim in the irons has possibly the best jockey at the track. Watch this trio!

(MUJTAHID x SEATTLE SLEW x STORM BIRD) This young lady seems to keep getting better in her three races to date and had a sizzling 84 SPF on an off track last time out in the GIII Mooney Stakes only to be nipped at the wire. Trainer PhillipJ keeps stretching her out and it seems to be working better and better. She is in the capable hands of Funk on the reins so you should expect to see good things happen here with this youngster.

(STRIVE x WOODMAN x NUREYEV) I love this girl’s name but unfortunately can’t say the same about her performance at this race length. She seems more suited to go a little shorter distance. Her best race to date was her last with a second in the Traba Memorial Stakes but that was only at six and a half furlongs. Trainer ViperTwo has put Cokebottle in the saddle and he has been struggling as well. All in all, it doesn’t point to a lot of success in this race.

(ZABEEL(NZ) x DANZIG x MR. PROSPECTOR) Undefeated in five races including three Stakes on of which was a Graded. Her times have improved each and every race and she’s run well at different distances. I don’t know what trainer TheAvenger is feeding this girl but I’d be happy to purchase some for my ponies. Top it off with one of the hottest jockeys at Ascot and what’s not to like about this package. Should contend for the win.

(DIVINE LIGHT (JPN) x VALID EXPECTATIONS x WILLIAMSTOWN) I’m not sure what Japan’s first hope was but this one has been stretching out bit by bit and trainer LoDog20 is hoping that they’ve found the magic distance at a mile. She has been competitive but hasn’t broken that big race yet. She hasn’t been against this level of competition yet either and it will be interesting to see how she makes out.

(CRYPTOCLEARANCE x EL PRADO(IRE) x MAJESTIC LIGHT) I have a soft spot for Cryptoclearance offspring and this young filly shows exactly why. She is two for two in her career and ran a speedy 88 SPF in her last race. This will be her first stab at a Stakes event and she is aiming high but an 88 SPF here would be tough to beat. Trainer Chelseydek has been handling this girl just right and she has run both races at a mile. My only worry is that jockey Bubba has really been struggling this year. This would be a good time for him to turn it around.

(LEROIDESANIMAUX (BRZ) x PRIVATE ACCOUNT x MAJESTIC LIGHT) Brazilian bred and with a temperament to match, this filly has seemingly taken a few steps back after a very promising maiden win four back. Since that time, she has not improved much speed figure wise and even worse, she has finished further back in each race. Trainer Chapin is trying everything he knows to turn this girl around but without much success. She is moving to a mile for the first time to try and stretch things out a bit.

(FLYING SPUR(AUS) x FUTURE STORM x BROAD BRUSH) Already a Graded winner but with an asterisk because that may have been her best race and it was on an off track. This weekend it looks like we are going to be on a fast track and that may not be to her advantage. Trainer Dowelly2 feels that she can run on any surface moisture-wise and hopes that the first time at a mile will get her back on track. He has VanDam holding the reins and he is quite capable especially with these youngsters. Perhaps this will be the race to get her back where whe belongs.

(MR. GREELEY x SADLER’S WELLS x MACHIAVELLIAN) This filly loves the lead and loves to win as evidenced by her three in a row to start her young career. She has had good but not fantastic speed figures and trainer USoz knows that she needs to bump that up just a bit to remain competitive at this level but he’s proven that he knows how to saddle winners. Already a two times Stakes winner is certainly nothing to sneeze at though and with Vincent holding the reins this could be a formidable team.

(DUBAWI (IRE) x SAKHEE x KINGMAMBO) Another Graded winner and also a top ten ranked filly, she has finished no worse than second in her three races to date. Shamran7 has been moving her along nicely and has to be happy with her results. She needs to take a slight step up here and will be dragging Grohl along in the saddle who has not won much of anything this year. She may have enough talent to overcome that.

(KINGMAMBO x DANZIG x NIJINSKY II) Last but certainly not least is our Morning Line favorite. She’s already run well at this distance and won two of three although she came up a little short in her only Stakes race to date. Super15 knows that his filly has the breeding to succeed and she’s been on the outside plenty of times already in her young career. He has Williams in the saddle and he’s been quite successful this year. Can he bring home a winner with this girl?

It is so hard to predict these two year olds, especially when most of them have never even run a mile. It is fairly even race with some really nice looking fillies, I like the ML favorite,VERA GEMINI finish fourth. I think that MORE SLEW is coming into her own so I have her pegged for third. The last two are so close you couldn’t fit a sheet of paper between them. I think that MADAM ALLY will have the lead at the top of the stretch but in the end it will be KEVORKIAN AVENGER who will pass her and grab the win to stay undefeated.
