Unbeaten Fillies Face Off In Ireland
Welcome to Ireland for this week’s regular stakes, The Yarni Marni Memorial. This time we will feature the juvenile fillies, who will be going 5.5 furlongs on the turf course for a purse of $80,000. Five young lasses have answered the call to the post. Let’s take a look at the entrants. On the rail at 5/2 is Jo’s Spanish Gold (Johannesburg x El Prado(Ire)) owned by rms. This striking dark grey filly is undefeated in two career starts, winning both a maiden and a stakes by no less than two lengths in each race. Her best speed figure so far is a 72, and she has top jockey Z. Kentucky(20%) in the leathers. In post two at 5/1 is Caruao Blues(GB) (Beat Hollow(GB) x Event Of The Year) owned by isafede. It took half a dozen tries to get her first win, but she fits nicely into this field. She hasn’t been beyond today’s distance, and likes to run in front. The 74 she ran last time out is the second highest in here. M. Bulford(10%) is her pilot. In post three also at 5/1 is High Reward (Grand Reward x High Yield) owned by sugarhill. She broke her maiden on dirt, but is stakesplaced in both of her turf starts. She ran third last time out in the stakes won by Jo’s Spanish Gold, and will be hoping to turn the tables on her this week. Her top speed of 73 was run on dirt. A. Reed(16%) is sure to get the most out of her.In post four at 2/1 is Zaldibia(Ire) (Dubawi(Ire) x Beat Hollow(GB)) owned by rheffisimo. An easy winner in her debut with a 73 speed figure, she is one of 22 winners out of 69 starters for freshman sire Dubawi(Ire). He is off to a fast start, having already sired a graded winner and two stakes winners. This girl looks like she has the talent to be one of them, and E. Newcomb(12%) is happy to get the mount.Rounding out the field is today’s favourite at 8/5, Cat On Hold (Hold For Gold x Storm Cat), owned by sleworama. She may have only broken her maiden last time out in her third start, but the 78 speed figure she ran in her debut showed promise of great things yet to come. Her victory came right here in Ireland, although she will have X. Bowden(4%) up today instead of Rice. That is our field. We have two unbeaten fillies…one of whom will not be after today. (Hey Mike, when are we gonna get dead heats?) We have one who has hit the board in all of her turf stakes so far, but has yet to win one. We have a pair who have taken a few starts to win, but have speed figures up to par with this level. Any one of these girls could come out on top. Good luck to all the runners, and may they all come home sound.
