Pair Of Millionaires Feted In Grade 2 Cold Plate at Germany
The feature race this Saturday at Germany is The Cold Plate, a Grade 2 test for 4yo’s and older. They’ll go 13 furlongs on the turf course, one which will be firm and fair due to the recent warm weather in the region.
Headlining the field is a pair of millionaires, namely TETE EILERT and SEACASTLE CALL, but several others have come to try those two including a 4yo filly with only one win vs. winners, but a lot of experience against top-level runners and a sharp recent Grade 2 win.
Here’s a look at the field:
TETE KASPER appears to be the pacesetter in this field full of closers. Trainer racelord2 works for the same stable group as TETE EILERT‘s trainer, so maybe that’s the plan. The 4yo Rock Of Gibraltar colt has shown a lot more early speed since an in-group transfer a few starts ago. Goes off at a rather juicy 6/1 and could get awful brave if left alone way out front, something that could very well happen.
SEACASTLE CALL might just be the Sim’s next turf superstar… The lightly-raced 4yo Sea The Stars colt has been crushing graded-stakes fields, winning 3 in a row in no-doubt-about-it fashion. The listonstks trainee does have one caveat: Can he beat graded-stakes compny anywhere other than New Zealand? If so, the next question will be more like “just how good can he get?” Apparently the ‘cappers think, “real good!” and make him the favorite at 7/5.
GENEROUS THEA is a 4yo Teofilo filly who winners for the first time last time out, but it was a darned nice victory in the Grade 3 Prix Royal at Paris. Problem is, that that win was six months ago. Before that the fredjed trainee had a pair of graded-stakes 2nd’s against the femmes, and even a 4th against males. Can’t explain the 6-month layoff, and neither can the ‘cappers, who drop 8/1 odds on her.
KAIDAHOM won the Grade 3 Gordy Stakes last summer, but a pair of subpar efforts in graded company landed the gcliffo3 trainee right back in allowances, where he ran off with a pair of lopsided wins. Now, the 4yo Dalakhani colt takes another look at the big boys, and he gets 2/1 odds. Maybe this time he’ll stick around longer at this level…
TETE EILERT loves this course, where he has grabbed a Grade 1 badge in the G.P. Von Baden Stakes to go along with a Grade 2 2nd. The sabbath7 trainee, a 5yo son of Holy Roman Emperor, can be excused for his midpack run in his last because that Grade 1 Sand Castle Golden Turf Classic field was absolutely loaded with superstars and he’d been away from the races for over six months. Also has a Grade 1 win in the Milan Grand Prix and goes off at 4/1.
CIZIN CANFORD is the longshot of the field at 16/1 despite picking off three wins in a row. The 4yo Canford Cliffs colt makes his stakes debut and has never run a three-digit speed figure, perhaps explaining those long odds for the dannejaka2 trainee. Has a bit of early speed and may be the one forced to try and keep the pace honest.
HANDIKAPPER’S KORNER
Like many small-field races, this could be a real chess-match. Will anyone go hard after the expected pacesetter TETE KASPER? If that doesn’t happen, they could be handing him the race on a silver platter, even though the favorite SEACASTLE CALL may be able to run him down even if he get’s that big, easy lead. That’s the way I’m gonna go… SEACASTLE CALL to win, TETE KASPER to place, and TETE EILBERT running well in his 2nd following a layoff to get the show spot.
Good luck all!
