Spotlight Race of the Day: New York 4/14 Allowance
Seven horses will compete in a 9.5 furlong allowance race in New York on the turf. This race is restricted to fillies and mares that are three year olds and are non-winners of four lifetime. Sorry boys.
1. Unbridled Profit 3/1-Matched career best turf speed of 82 in last with nice run finishing second in last, rallying late in the race. This came when she dropped to claimers after a fifth at same 8.5 distance in prior race with allowance, finishing sixth. Last start came after near 4-month rest. Bounces back up to allowance level which could be an issue, but unlikely as almost everyone in this race is making the climb. This is the second start after rest could be nice improvement and extra distance should be beneficial.
2. Debbie Kahn 9/5-Broke maiden last month when switched over to turf against claimers. Drew off to win by nearly three strides against large field with strong 89 speed number that could be hard to beat here. Was ITM in all three prior efforts on dirt and this lady could be versatile on all surfaces. Repeat is possible.
3. Sowaki 2/1-Claimed in dirt event in February and moved to allowance level last month finishing fourth but making up ground late in the mile distance. Last ran turf at very end of December and charted 81 speed finishing third, again showing some late kick. More distance in this race is a good thing and should enhance the speed number, expect a better run.
4. Crooked Creek 6/1-Has raced twice on turf, both as a maiden. Debuted in November, going 8.5f with 70 speed, finishing in rear of field. Broke maiden on turf with claimers going 6.5f in soft field and 59 speed. Moves up to allowance after trio of claiming races with last a winner on dirt at 9.5 furlongs. Distance seems to suit but the turf can be a bit of a question mark and should get answered here. Interesting entrant who could deliver a nice price.
5. Benji Granny 54/1-A weekly runner who has 14 starts already in 2015. She’s being over raced and it is showing in the speed numbers. Early year speeds in the 60’s have diminished to the 40’s. Jumps up to allowance after competing in various claiming ranks. Not likely to contend and risk of injury enhances with each start.
6. Rojana Inn 7/1-Broke maiden in early November than took the winter off. Raced on wet turf upon return at end of March sporting best speed number of 81 and finishing second with a late run. Extension of distance could be the right ingredient and this lady makes second start after meaningful rest which could bake up a winner.
7. Addercot 15/1- Another lady that likes to run late and has shown improvement in the speed numbers with each start. Although the speed keeps improving with each race, the increase has been marginal. Last outing was a 73 at 8.25 furlongs finishing fifth. She looks like an outsider in this race but as she continues to improve, she may find the allowance level to be a good fit, but not at the current moment.
A lot of late runners in this field with just about everyone operating this way. However, Debbie Kahn usually likes to stalk the leader and could take the front end in this one and not look back, top pick.
Love the last race for Unbridled Profit and the distance added on is a bonus and second pick.
Rojana Inn can improve off last which was off-track, may like drier better, offers decent boost to trifecta, third pick.
