Race # 10

The BOOMER BELLY Stakes

Stakes
6 furlongs

Yielding Turf

$55,000
Fillies and Mares, 2y old

We got 6 young fillies going at Ostend today. 6 furlongs on the grass, but it has been raining for some time in Belgium and the track is yielding. This could be the unknown factor in this race: all are at the beginning of their carreer. Some already proved to be Stakesworthy but the offtrack can give this one an unpredictable outcome.

PP        Age      Horse                           Owner              Odds     Pedigree
1          2F         BALD ROCK(IRE)                      olebaldy                       2/1       Rock of Gibraltar x Seeking the Gold x Sadler’s Wells

Record: 2 races: 2-0-0: (wins: MSW + 1 allowance)

Very expensively bred and unbeaten in her two starts, this girl will surely try to give everything to keep a clear record and she definitely has the talent for it. I wonder why the owner did not stretch her out a bit cause I think she will even be better on a longer distance. Accoding to the bookies the favourite in this race.

2          2F         ELUSIVE REBEL(AUS)     tuleklodge         4/1       Cullen x Groom Dancer x Minnesota Mac

Record: 4 races: 3-1-0 (wins: 3 Stakes)

Well, well: most likely a bargainbred and what a carreerstart she has had: placed in her first race with only a noselength from the winner and a speed of 67. Second race was a restricted race but a very hardfought one if you take a closer look at the speeds. Same goes for her secondlast race. You see the record: she wins all the time. She had an easier race a couple of weeks ago with only 5 entries.  The trainer must be thinking not to change a winning team and he keeps her on 6f Turf. For me she will be the very high favourite in this race. The only thing which might cause problems is the track: it is very wet and we absolutely do not know who will deal best with that. She drew the topjock though.

3          2F         YASAWA FLYER             joe333              9/2       Green Desert x El Corredor x Nijinsky

Record: 4 races: 2-1-0: (wins: MSW + 1 allowance)

Had a fine debut : in a full field she dominated the race from wire to wire to win in a good speed of 65. The allowance that followed she also won, but that was a small field. She grabbed good points in the G3 where she finished second and that was on an off track – so that might give some promise for today -. That speed however was not so high and ELUSIVE REBEL has been posting better speeds up to now.

4          2F         MOBIL STAR                 conqcielo          11/1     Mobil x Best of the Bests x Nureyev

Record: 6 races: 2-1-1: (wins: MSW + 1 allowance)

To be honest I do not rate this filly too high and the bookies obviously also have the same opinion: the four allowances in which she ran were not so good and these were also restricted allowances and small fields. She ran third place in the Stakes but that was also a field of only 4 horses and the speed of 67 is not extraordinary.

She did run a pretty decent maidenrace though in a full field and on a slightly wet track. In my opinion she has not got the capacity at this point to compete with ELUSIVE REBEL.

5          2F         CARSON SKY                holychow          4/1       Sky Mesa x Sadler’s Wells x Carson City

Record: 6 races: 2-1-0: (wins: MSW + 1 allowance)

Out of a D-grade mare this girl has been running mostly in the ATC Breeder’s Contest. She did perform pretty well and very consistent. She seems to be improving with distance, but if you look at her breed and her mother that is something you could have expected. I would have stretched this one out already instead of choosing again for a 6 furlong race, but she has a chance here. Will most likely try to take the lead and it won’t be easy to hold it on the wet track.

6          2F         TRICKY ZIP                  woodsmen        5/2       City Zip x Clever Trick x Sadler’s

Record: 5 races: 2-0-0: (wins: 1 allowance + 1 Stakes)

This filly is switched from 5 races on dirt to turf now and it is very hard to predict what she will do on this wet turftrack. Has been running pretty good on dirt, but her owner probably expected more from the Graded races she ran. I think it is wise to try the turf, on the other hand I do think that the Graded races might have been a bit over her head at this point.

My prediction: ELUSIVE REBEL – BALD ROCK – YASAWA FLYER
