Wow! What a race we had at Saratoga, NY this weekend at the Kentucky Horsemen Mint Julep Distaff. It started with seven horses within a length of the lead nearing the first furlong pole and ended with a ferocious rush by the pre race favorite that looked like a coast to coast pony express ride. In the end WHISPERING SOUND was able to hold that favorite LAKE BEMIDJI off and gather the win. She was lucky that the race wasn’t a few strides longer though.

WHISPERING SOUND ran the race of her life and that’s what it took to beat LAKE BEMIDJI . She stalked the early leader OTTO CAPITAL along with GREEK RANSOM then took off at the half to an insurmountable lead of nearly 12 lengths over LAKE BEMIDJI who seemed to forget that she was in a horse race until the top of the final turn. At that point, BEMIDJE kicked it into gear like a rocket ship on rails but it was too late to make up the kind of ground that she had left and she was second by a little less than two. Although BEMIDJI looked to be the class of the field, jockey Child on WHISPERING SOUND showed why he is one of the best.

This was the first Graded win for Whispering Sound though she’s come close before. She now has seven wins in only eighteen starts and is nearing $1million in earnings. She looked as if she is going to be a horse to be reckoned with in the future and owner Given2 is going to have some big decisions to make in her career. As for our pre race favorite and second place finisher, LAKE BEMIDJI, someone needs to get her an alarm clock and let her know when the race starts. She started way too late this race!

Good luck to all runners!
