A Snowballs Chance makes it four in a row in Smark Stakes

A Snowballs Chance made it four in a row, edging out the competition to grab this week’s Smark Stakes. The race was tailor made for her closing style, and she took full advantage of that down the stretch to claim the victory. This was her second stakes victory in a row, and she posted a career best 75.8 speed. The victory is her fourth in six starts, and moves her up to a rank of 24 in the Filly Turf Sprint Division. It also raises her career earnings to just shy of the 100K mark. I said in the preview that she might be worth a bet, and she proved me right, paying decently at the window. She paid $15.50 $6.90 $2.10 across the board. She also added value to the exotics, contributing to a $33.40 exacta and a $72.10 trifecta.

Dalmatia(IRE) grabbed the early lead in this one, managing to open nearly two lengths at the half. Silver Glory and Prado Rock(IRE) stayed right off her tail battling neck and neck for good position for a second half run. Silver Glory made her jump at the half, and had claimed a short lead going into the stretch. But the closers were coming hard and she just couldn’t hold off A Snowball’s Chance, who nipped her by a neck at the wire, coming from just over five lengths out and the half. The other deep closer, Diamondsarehalos rounded out the top three, two and a quarter lengths out at the wire. It was an exciting sprint, with the whole field within four and a half at the wire.
