Princess Di Cap On Tap

Princess Di Cap On Tap

New York – After a quick trip back across the ocean, I arrived in New York in time to get to the racetrack and do my homework on The Grade I Princess Di Cap.  A $500,000, nine furlong affair over the grass, it drew a field of nine four year old fillies for the Saturday afternoon race.  Some top horses, trainers and jockeys will be on hand so here’s a look at the field by post position.

On the inside rail will be Bonnie Blue Buda (6/1), a big tall filly by Dixie Union.   She is owned and trained by one of the oldest conglomerates in the Sim, The Buda Group.  Godmother is listed as the trainer of record for this nice filly who is a winner of five of her 20 races.  She has been first or second (mostly second) in six of her last eight races and it looks like her trainer is taking advantage of the relatively short field and the big bucks.  Her last win came in an allowance race and she comes in off a third place finish in The Indy’s Girl.  Even being trained by one of the best, she will need to give her best.

Yankee Rose (12/1) is one of the two speed horses in the race and has a record of five wins from 21 starts.  Trained by Waremblem5, she is by Silver Charm and has made the lead in all but two of her last eight races, before tiring in the stretch.  This race is shorter than she has been running and that should help but it has been a long time since she has seen the winner’s circle, five back in The Queen Great, and she will need more luck than just drawing towards inside.

Meguire5th will be sending out his nice filly by Woodman, Chopping Hill (5/1).  She hasn’t won a race in the last nine months but she usually gets a check and there is nothing wrong with that.  She hates an off track, so throw out her last and she fits with these.  She always closes well and is capable of a triple digit speed figure.

Post four is Fab19′, s # 28 ranked Distorted Humor filly, Getaloadofthis (3/1).  She won five in a row before finishing second last time out in the Grade I, Brisbane Distaff.  She has an enviable record of 11 wins and is 21/24 in the money.   She is another that has been running longer and jockey Child will have to shake her up early to keep her in the picture.

Look For The Light (30/1) is the race long shot but certainly has a nice record, with five wins from only seven starts and has only been out of the money once.  Trainer Tartar sent the Fantastic Light filly through her conditions and she performed flawlessly.    She picks up a new rider Saturday, as Nancy Lawton went elsewhere, but she loves New York and has run almost exclusively over the track.   The jump from allowance to a Grade I, is a big one and how she will fare is anybody’s guess.

Another lightly raced filly is Souvenir’s, Giant Causeway filly, Giant Souvenir (10/1).  She comes in off a win last time out in The Stiff Canyon at longer and has a top notch record of five wins from 10 starts.  I think she can handle the class jump and will be around at the finish for part.

Devil01 dropped the entry of Adios Amigo (8/1) a daughter of El Corredor.  She has scored four times from 19 starts but her last wins were at the allowance level and this is a long way up the stairs from that.  I would love to see this filly try 10 furlongs or better as she closes well every time and just runs out of ground.  She is another that usually gets a check so don’t be surprised if she is around at the end.

The favorite status goes to our old friend Lenny13 and his fine filly Empire Reef (2/1).  Breaking from post eight she has six wins from 22 starts and is the horse that top rider Nancy Lawton chose to ride.  Of course it might have been that the other trainers who wanted to use her couldn’t match the perk of a free all expenses paid trip to Las Vegas this winter.  What ever the reason, Lawton took the ride, and the big question is – will she send this front running filly to hook up with Yankee Rose out of the gate.  She comes in off a win in the Grade I, Cedora D at longer but took the field gate to wire.  She is the one to beat if she doesn’t get hooked in a speed duel.

Privately purchased by trainer Snowchief from Sim icon Texasace as an unraced 2 YO, Dead Solid Perfect (8/1) is a well bred filly by High Chaparral and sports six wins from 18 starts.  She also favors longer but is a solid filly that always tries hard.  She was 2nd last time out in The Pharstorm Challenge and she has picked up checks with graded company.   She was an easy winner of The Dependent Hooter and The Frugal Jessie at 9 1/2 and 10 furlongs respectfully, and has picked up a top rider who can hopefully get this stone closer, moving along a bit earlier than usual.

Good Luck to all.
