breaking news from socal based deep rock stables has announced that sara rez stakes champion smiling glass . will be retired after his next start ,he isn’t responding as we had hoped after coming off his injury last racing season. the extended rest didnt help and we feel he was to good to us to watch race in claimers hence the decision to retire was made.he came up lame after the G2 The Princess of Whales last July .the big bay colt out of sharp humor and the mare mush mush who has produced 3 winners out of 4 foals . started his racing carrer on september 2012 ,he showed a little promise finishing 2nd closing on winner .he seemed to get him self in trouble after that first start and didn’t break his maiden till his 7th start on a muddy track he came from last to win going away , only thing was he wasn’t on the radar for the s.a.r.a triple crown races and was left to race on the east coast of the u.s. , he won his next start over a small field with the hope it would help with his confidence and it worked as he ran 3rd his next start in his toughest field at the time ,notables in field were stakes winner BLAME THAT KIRBY,and stakes placed PAL’S REWARDS,THEIR LUCKY STARS and MARDI GRAS KING.by now stable ceo lightng99 had sent way rock to south Africa for the s.a.r.a derby and smiling glass was sent to gulf stream on Florida coast to run in a small but very tough field that included  stakes winner FREE STATE and stakes placed BOUNCE BACK BARB . he was leaning on the gate again  and comes out slow dropped back 10 lengths off field and looked out of it .he was still 6 back coming into final turn and he just took off to win going away to the delight to his trainer .so after way rock comes up injured in the s.a.r.a derby a replacement was needed for the next 2 legs of s.a.r.a triple crown . by now smiling glass had won 3 of 4 races was looking as best option to ship across the seas to compete . and man was it worth the cost . he dominated both legs winning the sara-ness going away by 4 /12 lengths and taking the sara-mont holding off GALE FORCE WINTER .two starts later runs 2nd in the SAf-bred Classic to the saf champ SILVADELAGO .after three tough outing comes back in December and winning the SAf-bred Champions Cup beating a stellar field . he started off 2014 with a bang looking to be the one to beat in saf racing .by running 2nd in the SAf-bred January Stakes . then comes back his next start and comes from way back to win the SAf-bred Emerald Cup I . his next start was in the G3 The Skipping Away where he ran 3rd beating G2 winner GREATDAYFORAMERICA , G1 winner SHINE TIME and G3 winner PERFECT CURLS, that was his last good run .he will finish his career with 29 starts , 7 win ,3 places and 4 shows and $363,919 in sim earnings for his proud owners .he will be missed at the track .
