Maximum Field to Contest Getaway
The Group One Getaway Stakes for two-year-old fillies has been a major lead-up to the Breeders Bowl Juvenile Fillies race since 1999. While Seekin Sal remains the only filly to have won both races, there have been many others who have been highly competitive in both. The 2006 edition sees a maximum field of fourteen fillies face the starter for their shot at Group One glory.
Katherineofaragon (9/1) – her speed ratings have been increasing with each start and climaxed with an 82 in her last start where she finished second in the Group One Horsehead Juvenile Fillies over 6.5 furlongs. She has been running on strongly at the end of her races and the step up in distance should suit her nicely.
Cybertown (10/1) – this regally bred filly has been able to win two of her three starts. After winning on debut she disappointed when finishing ninth in the Group Two Vermont BB Juvenile Filly, she was able to make amends for that defeat at her next start when she won the Pro I. Memorial Stakes. Despite her impressive breeding she may be little below the top fillies in this race.
Jacobite Hot Sauce (6/1) – comes into the race as the favourite due to her record of three wins from five starts; at only her third start she was able to win the Group Two Stroker Handicap over 6.5 furlongs. She followed that win with a disappointing fourth in the Group Two Red Fish Blue Fish Stakes but made amends at her next start when she won the Group Three Dr.Shut-Yer-Lips Stakes. She only beat a small field last time but has been consistent and should be thereabouts again.
Aly’s Nuggets (14/1) – undefeated in three starts and has been ready for this with a win in the Reindeer Affirm Challenge Stakes. Has only been competing against small fields and her speed ratings have been a little low; she may lack the class of some of her rivals here.
Ode to Greatness (IRE) (11/1) – won her first three starts before finishing third in her first stakes start, followed that race with a disappointing tenth in the Group Three Lean Machine Stakes. Returned to the winners stall at her last start when dropped back to allowance race over 6.5 furlongs. She is yet to prove herself at stakes level and the extra distance is a concern. Her stable is associated with last year’s winner so knows what’s required to win this race.
Storm
Redoute’s Niner (AUS) (8/1) – comes into this with three races under her belt and showed she was up to Group One level last start when she finished third in the Group One Horsehead Juvenile Fillies. Only win was a two-year maiden but is nicely bred filly that may prefer a slightly shorter trip.
Crystal Seer (12/1) – undefeated filly who has won her first three at allowance level and comes into this with an impressive speed rating of 82 in her last race. She is having her first run at the group level without a stakes start and the step up in distance looks ideal. Top jockey R.Michael has been engaged and should only increase her chances.
Dozzing Music (21/1) – after winning on debut, she failed in the Glory Boomer (GB) Stakes and the Group Three Desert Filly Juvenile. Returned to the winners stall when dropped back to allowance level but was disappointing in her last appearance when she finished second in a four horse allowance race. Is the long-shot of the field and may be found short at Group One level.
Top of the Heap (15/1) – has been progressing through the allowance ranks and has prepared for this with her first stakes start when winning the American Rule Special Stakes. Was able to beat the boys last start but others have been more impressive in fewer starts.
Exile in Guyville (10/1) – started her racing career with two wins before making her Group Racing debut in the Group Two Vermont BB Juvenile where she finished a close head second. Her next start was the Group Two Red Fish Blue Fish Stakes but could only manage a disappointing fifth. She will need to improve on her last start effort and has been given every chance with jockey B.Childs booked to ride. The extra distance may not be to her liking and would prefer to see her over a shorter trip.
What What OK (9/1) – three races have resulted in three third placings all at stakes and group level. Ran third in the Swampy Mill Stakes over 6.5 furlongs on debut and followed with a third in the Speed Bluff Challenge Stakes. She has rounded out her preparation for this race with a third in the Group Two Dazzling Daisies Stakes behind race rival Sisson’s Thief.
Barb’s Slow Cooker (8/1) – has the impressive record of three wins from four starts; after winning her first two races she disappointed in her first stakes appearance when she finished fourth in the North Wailing (IRE) Stakes. Not deterred her trainer “Radarmasn” entered her into the Group Two Red Fish Blue Fish Stakes where she ran an impressive race to win and easily account for race rival Jacobit Hot Sauce.
Sisson’s Thief (7/1) – after finishing runner-up in her first race, she has been unstoppable having won her next four races climaxing with her last start success in the Group Two Dazzling Daisies Stakes. Her speed ratings have been improving with each start and her trainer, “Deathstar” has been slowly increasing her distances towards this race. This race looks ideal in her progression and with top jockey N.Lawson is expected to produce another bold showing.
The Getaway has drawn a field of highly quality and promising fillies, while many are stepping up in distance they all have arguments supporting their inclusion in the race. Sisson’s Thief has been highly impressive to date and depending on her ability to handle the bad post position looks set for victory. Both Jacobite Hot Sauce and Barb’s Slow Cooker have achieved good results at Group level and appear to be her main danger. The untested Crystal Seer and the promising Katererineofaragon are both expected to run big races and the extra distance looks ideal in their preparations.
Tips: 1st – Sisson’s Thief 2nd – Crystal Seer 3rd – Barb’s Slow Cooker
