Wally’s Dehere Declares: I’m Back!
Returning after a ten week rest, Wally’s Dehere rallied to win the Grade 3 Cheap and Easy Stakes going away.
The three year old filly, trained by DOA, reinvigorated a career that began with such promise with three wins as a two year old and two wins and two second in her first four races as a three year old. She had used that record to qualify for the first two legs of the distaff version of the Triple Crown. She finished midpack in both of those races, and when she finished last in her next try, it was time for a rest.
Wally’s Dehere paid $23.50, $11.50 and $7.30 while traveling the eight furlongs in
With the win, she leapfrogged over the second place filly, Texasace’s Unbridled Mistress to improve her ranking to 16th among three year old fillies at a classic distance.
Completing the $3,492.20 trifecta was Lasthope1’s Espresso D’Italia. The top three fillies were the only ones in the overflow field of 17 who had competed in the Bluegrass Oaks and were the top three rated fillies in the race. The top three all rallied to take advantage of an early speed duel between fourth place Ampuria and eighth place Gypsie Queen.
The favorite, Broadway Angel ran an even ninth only to find herself in a mass of horseflesh at the end. The eighth through 14th fillies were all with in two lengths of each other.
