KY Horsemen Series: Top-ranked Tribal Odyssey headlines 2YO Turf Filly division
California– Kyclocker3’s Grade 1 winner and #1-ranked filly Tribal Odyssey leads a full field in the Grade 1 $1,000,000 KY Horsemen Debutante for freshmen turf gals. This KY Horsemen Spirits Series contest boasts a wide array of talented starlets. All chase the rich purse and Breeders Bowl stakes points………..
1 – LONGASICANCDALIGHT(IRE) whoami2 M Dorsey 12/1
Can’t pronounce her name, but the El Prado(IRE) daughter hopes to change that. After a forgettable dirt debut, the filly has been perfect 2-for-2 on the green stuff. Speedster survived a front end battle LTO and came out a good length on top in British Columbia stakes company. 72 SP# came versus a short field. Pedigree suggests she’ll take to short routes at least. Improving gal reaching for the bigtime.
2 – THE JIBBERER pogdig1 C Wood 34/1
Oratory filly brings a 2-for-4 lifetime grass record to the table. Speedster won a North Korea stakes versus a short field albeit in slow time too. Yet to break the 70 SP# barrier. Tired badly LTO, but maybe toss that race out since she was coming back from a long layoff and possible injury. Honestly, this is a reaching entry. Worth it to try for piece of purse, but has to show a heckuva lot more for the winner’s circle.
3 – NRMA PLEASE pogdig1 J Nabbs 9/1
Maiden by Jump Start. Has hit the board in both of her turf starts and both were stakes races too. Questionable short field compatition for the speedster — you’d think she would’ve been able to at least win versus a 4-horse field. Odds indicate she’s among the faves here — perhaps she’ll toss a higher number now that she has a chance at two-turns for the very first time. Something to prove.
4 – POWERDRIVE(GB) tejanorun2 E Land 15/1
Winner of 2-of-3 by Powerscourt(GB). Yet to break 70 SP#. Did rally well LTO around 6.5f, making up some ground. Some stamina in female family. Decent jockey helps. Must put forth her best rally to date. Outside chance for minor money.
5 – TRIBAL ODYSSEY kyclocker3 F Gossett 6/1
Ranked 1st in her division. Royal bred War Chant daughter perfect through two starts including a MSW and the Grade 1 Fauster’s Juvenile Cup. It was a gorgeous score from midpack, resulting in a 74 SP# for the 6f. With a Kingmambo x Theatrical(IRE) female family, no reason whatsoever to expect that she’ll falter around two-turns. Fresh on 8 weeks rest and attracts top California jockey F Gossett. The one to beat.
6 – THE BEAT GOES ON marsattack N Bonus 14/1
Mineshaft gal 2-of-3 so far on the green stuff, including a rollicking romp over 19 horses LTO. It was a Queensland residency owner-restricted ALW. 73 SP# got the job done over one mile. Love to see the mile try (and win!) before testing the higher level. Stalker has a shot, especially for the board.
7 – VY THE QUARTERBACK catahoula R Simcox 5/1
Royal bred female family for this Kitten’s Joy daughter. Broke maiden at first asking and then hit the board twice versus DelPenn residency-restricted stakes company. Had a shot at winning the mile race LTO, but got caught and passed late down the lane. Solid effort at the mile though and it won her the highest SP# in this group too: 80. She just might be good enough to handle all of these. Midpacker will give Tribal Odyssey a run for her money.
8 – CAVEMAN BONES ksparrow22 T Bates 21/1
Gulch x Storm Cat daughter 2-for-4 so far on grass, including a stakes win and a pair of stakes placings. Love this breeding for a flat mile, but SP#s aren’t much to boast about. Granted, not much to beat in short field listed turf filly stakes. Stalker not without a chance, but needs her best performance to date to win this one. Possible for minor money.
9 – CREDIT CRACKED(IRE) oasis L Jones 15/1
Falbrav(IRE) filly perfect 2-for-2 with a MSW and 76 SP# Nevada stakes score. That LTO effort was a whopping 15 SP# jump too. Talented, but not yet serously tested. Keep an eye on this one. We’ll see how good she is Saturday. Definitely bred for two-turns.
10 – BONES OF JONES ksparrow2 A Dominguez 6/1
Smarty Jones maiden entered stakes right away in her debut LTO. She finished 2nd of 6 horses at South Carolina. Royally bred. Flip a coin — certainly a nice filly, but just need more on paper to go on. Lousy jockey doesn’t help.
11 – MADAM ALLY(IRE) safrace5 M Staples 15/1
Almushtarak(IRE) pacesetter led till late in Tribal Odyssey’s Grade 1 Fauster’s Juvenile Cup. Did finish 3rd with a 70 SP#. Broke her maiden and placed in a couple of ALWs afterwards. Should feel a little more pace pressure this time around, but not much. Possible she can hit the board again then here. And maybe she’ll be better around the mile according to pedigree. Not to be discounted.
12 – BLAAACK COFFEE doodlesgbs J Pimental 14/1
Texas stakes winner by Victory Gallop. Has since made two turf starts and finished all over the board. Not on an upswing and that doesn’t bode well. Has to prove she belongs. Extreme outside chance.
13 – SAPPHO knightess L Snyder 7/1
Dynaofrmer royal bred started off career well enough bagging MSW. Hasn’t stepped forward SP#-wise though since even though she hit the board both times in stakes company. Both efforts were against short fields. Bred for two-turns. Should vie for the pace with Madam Ally(IRE). Needs huge effort.
14 – A P IN THE WELL broohar Mc Cooper 6/1
Lots of talent in this AP Indy daughter. Broke maiden in 2nd try and then finished 3rd in the Goats That Faint Juvenile(G2) versus colts. Seven weeks rest. Grassy two-turns female family. Made up some good ground in that effort versus colts. Should be there at the wire.
Snowchief’s Picks:
Not much to write about when these freshmen only have a few starts. Additonally, there’s very little catchy speed, so who knows? We might see someone steal this on the front end.
Tribal Odyssey and AP In The Well have proven themselves spirited at this level. The other graded performer, Madam Ally(IRE), has something to prove whether or not she inherited the 3rd place finish by pacesetter default.
Of the stakes winners, I really Credit Cracked(IRE) and her improving style. Might be good for a board placing. VY The Quarterback too can’t be tossed out — best speed figure of the group, but did get passed late and probably bred to go longer.
Caveman Bones has black type credentials, but those SP#s get me leery. Ditto Powerdrive(GB). Longasicandalight(IRE) might grab a minor share. The Beat Goes On won over mile LTO and might spoil my trifecta.
I’m gonna go with the two graded horses though (yeah, favorites… :^)). I think Tribal Odyssey can overcome a soft pace with top jockey Gossett aboard:
Win: Tribal Odyssey
Place: AP In The Well
Show: Credit Cracked
Good luck to all and thanks to The Kentucky Horsemen Residency for this awesome Series!
