Spotlight Race of the Day: 1/12 Japan Allowance
A good sized field of 11 fillies and mares will take on the Japan turf in a 7.5 furlong affair. The race is open to all ladies age three and over and is restricted to non-winners of three races in their lifetime.
1. Montrica 9/5-Ran speeds over 100 in last three races, all at mile earning win and second in process. Last raced at end of October, 2014 and needs a start to get back into the game. Still, can’t rule this talented gal out.
2. Un Seable Star 4/1-Started racing career in mid-November on Japan track winning first time out and following that up in December on same oval with another win with speeds of 93 and 101. Looks to make it perfect three for three.
3. Jinsky Dancer 10/1-Struggling in allowance ranks of late, off the board in last three starts. This resulted in time at the farm. Makes return after over four month break with hopes of finding the 90-speeds that this one has been able to hit in the past.
4. Artemeesia 16/1-Career best speed of 90 landed in mid-November 6.5 furlong allowance race where she finished fourth. Had nice win at 6 furlongs the month prior rallying from seven back to role to a stride win. Has ability but may be looking for longer distances.
5. Dux Under 27/1-Speeds are the problem for this lady in that she hit low 80’s twice during 2014 an that will not be good enough in this race. Should be in the battle early but most likely won’t last. Allowance level may be to demanding for this gal.
6. Tribal Lutes 127/1-Last seen on the track back in mid-November where she tried the allowance level as a 2-year old and finished fifth. Finds tough hole to compete in going against older and more experienced women. Best results came in claiming levels.
7. Symbolic Dance 5/1-Gal likes to be on the front end and has trouble staying there when it counts. In nine races during 2014, finished worse than fourth once, showing one who can still bring home something. Could get something in this race, but probably not the top desired prize.
8. Exceedian Empress 7/1-Had a two race tryout at tail end of 2014 where he finished second and third hitting career best speed of 99 on the surface. Returns to grass with hopes that speed will follow. Looks like a late runner who wants more distance to me and could be interesting to try that out on the dirt. The late speed may work here if she wants to run on the grass.
9. Hay Caviar 16/1-Allowance level has been rough on this girl during 2014, finishing in top-three twice despite 11 races with this group. Only win came late in the year when she dropped to the claiming level. Returns back to allowance and troubled times could be in store again.
10. Alien Ant Farm 22/1-Raced as a two-year old last season with pair of wins and pair of places in four starts. Speeds improved with each start until an end of season listed stake race where she was non-competitive. Faces older runners here which may be a bit too much to take on for this girl who just turned the age of 3.
11. Out of the Dust 7/1-Lightly raced in 2014 with only five starts scattered throughout the year but the last three were the best. She finished in each of the top three spots once with speeds of 90 to 98. Speeds good enough to bring home some BP’s in this race.
Un Seable Star is a nice runner firing off good speeds for one who just started racing. Look for three straight.
Montrica returns to racing and is rarely out of the money, could get the top seat.
Out of the Dust could grab a share, third choice.
