Recap of The Pasdequoit Special
The public’s second choice, Sulphur(IRE), charges hard down the lane and draws off to an impressive one and a half length victory. This is the second win in three tries the past two months for this handsome looking son of Giant’s Causeway. Jockey F Gossett said after the race, “We hoped for a fast pace up front to close into and we got it. I just want to thank the trainer maineline for giving me the opportunity to ride him.” With the win Sulphur has now $445,000 in lifetime earnings.
As the bell rang Barbamoon jumped to the lead while Dank U Hollandia, Hydrocarbon, Art Home, Mr. Frankie, and Special One battled eachother for the second spot. Racetime favorite Spank The Monkey and eventual winner Sulphur sat behind that pack with Civil Defense and Or Not Two Punch bringing up the rear.
At the top of the strtetch Barbamoon was beginning to tire after setting the quick pace. Dank U Hollandia came through on the inside to make the lead. Special One was staring to cut into the lead while Sulphur was gaining with his winning kick.
Sulphur and jockey F Gossett ran past Dank U Hollandia at about the eighth pole and was drawing away at the wire to a clear one and a half length victory. Dank U Hollandia held off the late charge of Special One to finish second in a photo. It was another four lengths back to Civil Defense and another half length to Or Not Two Punch.
The favorite, Spank The Monkey ran a disappointing sixth. Trainer Vegasjef was not too concerned with the way he ran, “he came out of this fine. Maybe it was the hot weather or just the “bounce” from the effort he gave in his last race. We’ll rest him up a bit and we’ll be back.”
The winner paid $14.70. Exacta $118.60.(I’m getting closer, maybe I’ll hit one someday) Trifecta $831.80. Congrats to the winning horse and trainer. See ya next time.
