It was a race domimated by favorites as four of the top five Morning Line faves finished in the top five for the Fifth leg of the OLD MAN OF THE MOUNTAIN series. For the fourth time, we had a new winner in the five races and RASPUTIN jumped up the series leaderboard. He beat out A. CONTENDER who has now finished in the top three twice in the series. Because our host MEAT LOAF LOOP didn’t win this time, that means the next race will still be an allowance for NW2y and both of these horses aliong with DEPUTY WOOD who finished fifth after winning last time out will be eligible. That’s what makes this series so much fun. There are lots of folks dreaming of catching series leader EMINENT MINSTRELwho is not eligible to run in the next race, while we are waiting for the next race in the series in four weeks.
A. CONTENDER and ususal leader, BROTHER HOT started off this race like they wanted to be the first at the Social Security check window. At the half way point, our eventual winner was buried in ninth place. He and BURG GROOVING started moving at the top of the stretch and ran down the leaders like they were pulling a chariot. In the end, they both flew through the crowd picking them off one by one. A. CONTENDER tried to hold on but he didn’t quite have enough energy left to hold off our winner but he did stay ahead of Burg Grooving who finished third. The future of the series looks exciting as long as some of them don’t decide to retire and collect their Social Security.
For the third consecutive race, our host MEAT LOAF LOOP ended up being a good host and sitting back in his rocking chair to watch the finish from way back. . It’s about time for him to step up and gather some points again.. EMINENT MINSTREL now leads the series with 12 points. He is followed by the winner of this race, RASPUTIN who moved up to second with nine points. MEAT LOAF LOOP and DEPUTY WOOD follow with 6. It is a ten race series and lots of things can happen including quite a few heart attacks and strokes among the participants, so it should be interesting down the road.
DEPUTY WOOD and RASPUTIN have won the last two races in the series and get to continue racing because it was their first win of the year. EMINENT MINSTREL , the series leader has to sit by the wayside and watch his lead dissipate while he waits for “Meaty” to win another race. Stay tuned!
