Western Cat BG wires the field to win Bright Account Stakes
Western Cat BG went wire to wire, holding off all comers, to notch a victory in this week’s Bright Account Stakes. This is her second stakes victory in here last three starts, and it moves her up to the top 100 in the sophomore filly Turf Sprint Division at a 94 rank. Her career earnings moved to $150595 for her eighteen starts. This is also her third victory in her last five starts, and she seems to be on a roll here in her sophomore season. Not a major payout at the betting windows, but some bettors took home a nice profit, with Western Cat BG paying $9.00 $4.40 $2.70 across the board. Lucky ticket holders also made $21.30 on the exacta and $75.10 on the trifecta.
Western Cat BG made it tough on this field from the outset, grabbing the early lead that she extended to one and a half lengths at the first call and just over two at the half. Four horses sat just off the pace, waiting for her to flag, but she never did. There was a noticeable lack of movement by closers at the half, their usual favored place to start a run, and it looked like Western Cat BG was going to walk away with this one uncontested. As they went down the stretch though, Duel Spin Turbo and Embargo(IRE) started making a move, quickly beginning to eat into the leader’s cushion. With the slow early pace though, it was a matter of too little much too late, and Western Cat BG still had a full length lead as she crossed the wire. Second place came down to a photo finish, with Duel Spin Turbo just edging out Emabrgo(IRE) for second place honors.
