The THREE MARS Memorial
The THREE MARS Memorial Stakes Six furlongs Fast Dirt $30,000 Fillies and mares, 4 years old and up Nine talented fillies and mares show up to do battle today in The THREE MARS Memorial. Our undercard to today’s big race still has the makings of a highly competitive race as many veterans as well first timers hope to make their mark in Mexico. Although we are fighting at six furlongs, the pace is expected to be slow and could set up for a big phot finish at the wire. So grab your bottle of XX and let’s get going. PP 1 9/2 UNINHABITABLE S Belcher ( 55 – 6 – 4 – 7 – 11% ) Trainer: phartlap1 4 Year Old Filly (CAPOTE x VICE REGENT x HABITAT) This Capote filly has certainly shown some flash of speed in the past and as a maturing four year old she may be ready to show more. Although she has yet to score at this level she may be primed for her first career stakes win as she look to sit just behind the pace and make a move in the stretch. PP 2 7/1 ALBERTA T C Purvis ( 51 – 2 – 4 – 7 – 4% ) Trainer: tcopyright 5 Year Old Mare (ALBERT THE GREAT x CAPOTE x NORTHERN DANCER) Showing signs of wear and tear a bit, this Capote grand-daughter makes up for this with shear experience. With by far the best record with six stake wins including a graded win last year in the Real Danger Handicap-G2, she may have seen the best days behind her but picks up a soft and small crowd today and may surprise. The only thing that may stop her is a questionable jockey selection in C Purvis who has only visited the winner’s circle twice this year. PP 3 8/1 SIGNIFICANCE L Lockhart ( 51 – 7 – 4 – 2 – 14% ) Trainer: florida 4 Year Old Filly (LANGFUHR x LOST CODE x VAGUELY NOBLE) Switching surfaces today after a career best 103 on the grass leaves me perplexed. Although she’s been competitive on the dirt in allowance company I find it hard to understand why you would ship a horse like her from Europe to Mexico after that race. Unless she’s just showing signs of maturity that you very often find at this age would be the only way I could justify it. If that’s the case then she could have a big day in store. PP 4 5/1 TOMATO MAGIC(IRE) C Graham ( 80 – 14 – 11 – 8 – 18% ) Trainer: toplight 4 Year Old Filly (GALILEO (IRE) x THEATRICAL(IRE) x BLUSHING GROOM(FR)) Bred by toplight At home on either surface, she could prove both dominant and versatile. Winner of two previous stake races including a graded victory last year in the Wilted Petals Stakes-G2 she has the experience to make a go of it. Although both her stake wins are on the grass, the 103 SR three races back stand out on the page and beg you to take notice. A slow pace could equal a win here. PP 5 7/1 TUBULAR(BRZ) D Zandofsky ( 47 – 9 – 8 – 9 – 19% ) Trainer: buzzbarn 4 Year Old Filly (SIPHON(BRZ) x BALDSKI x PRINCE JOHN) Looking for win #3 in a row while moving up in class may be tough today for her. Although she is running consistently this year she hasn’t quite accomplished what she did at the end of last year as three year old. She could benefit from a slow pace as her come from behind style and shorter distance could prove her undoing if a fast pace ensues. Nice try but I see her running out of real estate. PP 6 4/1 WILE E. CAPOTE M Buck ( 353 – 82 – 70 – 59 – 23% ) Trainer: citation 4 Year Old Filly (CAPOTE x CRAFTY PROSPECTOR x SUMMER SQUALL) Hasn’t found the winner’s circle in a stakes race since last July in the Exam Stakes-G1. She had the looks of a terror under 8 furlongs early last year but has only managed one owners restricted allowance win since her Grade 1 win. Still, as the #12 ranked horse in the division she could just run away from the field and she draws top jock M Buck in the irons. Although she’s been off form lately I think it’s her race to lose. PP 7 7/1 NOW SNEAKING I Naber ( 73 – 8 – 9 – 10 – 11% ) Trainer: litde 5 Year Old Mare (TIZNOW x STRIKE THE GOLD x PHARLY(FR)) Surprising the field last time out in The DEED LA Stakes-Stk, she came within two lengths of the winner at double digit odds and could repeat again today. Although she hasn’t won at this level she has shown enough in the past to warrant a start here today. The only question is which horse will show up as consistentcy has been a problem she’ll have to show me more in order to get a place on my ticket. PP 8 5/1 SUMMER AFFAIR(IRE) M Olsen ( 282 – 49 – 36 – 33 – 17% ) Trainer: mizuno 6 Year Old Mare (BLACK TIE AFFAIR(IRE) x SUMMER SQUALL x BUCKFINDER) Lightly raced for a six year old she is showing signs of improving as she gets older. She grabbed her first stakes win in April in The GRANNY SCRAGGLY Memorial-Stk while posting a career best 105 SR. She seems better suited at this distance as her try two races back at 7.5 furlongs proved too much for her. Look for improvements after the allowance prep race where she finished a very strong second. PP 9 9/1 OLLIE PRICE N Boman ( 45 – 2 – 2 – 4 – 4% ) Trainer: ismith 6 Year Old Mare (MY MIKE x SAUCE BOAT x BOLD LAD) Claimed for $10,000 three race back, trainer ismith may be hoping for a sleeper type horse. Her entry today may be based on two very strongly ran races last year while posting 100+ SR numbers but her last two starts in stakes company have found her next to last in both tries. She does have some strong times but doesn’t look to have what it takes at this level. She could probably be running away with Starter Allowance division though.
