So many questions to be answered in Vermont

Hello everybody and welcome to Vermont for what could be a defining moment in the road to the eclipse awards, with the running of the G2 Vermont BB Juvenile Filly to be run over 5.5 furlongs for 2yo fillies (2874.3715) for prize money of $250,000 and with 9 of the 14 runners still undefeated and only 1 horse that you think can’t win this is going to prove impossible to pick the winner. Let’s try anyway.

SPEIGHTSTOWN x SADLER’S WELLS x DANZIG 6/1
Only start so far was a maiden in week 2832 where she scored a comfortable victory with an sp of 69. In that race the 3rd place getter has since gone on and won her maiden as well. To me that suggests that it was strong maiden. This horse is a 3rd generation home bred with her game dam being High Class Escort who was a G grade horse while her grand mother was Grade H mare Nail fly, Neither of these have yet to produce a stakes winner. Jockey G.Blackmore is looking to settle this horse towards the back of the field as he missed the start in his only run where his starts speed was a lack luster 7 which suggests to me he may get more distance and might be a good derby chance for next season.

SONG OF THE SWORD x AFFIRMED x KING OF KINGS(OLD) 17/1
This horse was involved in a two horse war last start with WESTWARD BOUND(AUS) and she came off 2nd best but with a brilliant sp of 79. A winner of 1 from 3 you would think that she would find this race a little hard but I think you still have to give her a chance as you can’t take her first start into account because it was run on turf. Her dam Dixie Person was a Grade H mare and has not produced much to date but this one could be a horse to reckoned with. Jockey Y Waymer is not in career best form but he seems to pop up with a winner when the big races are run. With start speeds around the 78- 79 mark I would expect this horse to be out front giving them something to chase.

CAME HOME x DEPUTY MINISTER x MINER’S MARK 8/1
Only start to date was a very easy victory at maiden level where she won with a good sp for a first start of 70 but I think she was ridden out and will need to improve 4 lengths to win this. LA MINSTRA is the only horse ESTADISTICA has produced who herself only won 1 race and was a historical grade G, She herself was the produce of YOUR ZOOBS who (had the operation) only had two wins himself/herself (grade G). Jockey H Dudderar Is in the biggest slump of his life having not ridden a winner this year in 39 starts. ( H Dudderar has become an animal activist and refuses to use the whip, This has caused him to only have 39 starts this year as he gets suspended by stewards for not riding out his mount). With so much going against her the question is will she overcome all obstacles and turn out to be the champion jibaro is looking for? I expect to see her mid pack at the half way mark.

Another who is undefeated with a maiden and an allowance win, is she prepared for the step up in class? drkmaster thinks so as of the 4 wins this stable has produced 2 of them were by this 2yo filly. DIXIE GONE DARK’s Game dam is LORD’S BOARDS a grade H mare who is also yet to produce a stake winner. G Parks is not in the best form of his life (he is being influenced by H Dudderar see above) as he only has 2 wins from 36 starts. I’m expecting DIXIE GONE DARK to sit mid field as her start speeds have always been 51 but she will need to improve about 4 lengths to win this race but you can’t rule her out. Will drkmaster get a grade 2 win with only 44 starts under his belt? only time will tell.

Wow brand new stable with only 7 starts and 1 win. LETUSPRAISEHIM which is a filly (I think) has only had 1 start for 1 win, In that race she started $1.20 favourite and did not look Like losing and with blood from the 3 horses above flowing through his veins how can you argue with the 5/1 being offered. Last start he won his race with an sp of 67 and a start speed of 63. I expect her to improve but it will take 5 to 6 lengths of improvement to have a chance in this. G Bungard is on board and will sit the horse in about 4th or 5th just off the pace but does he have the pace to keep up with these top 2yo’s?

SAINT LIAM x E DUBAI x BEAU GENIUS 14/1
Almost a mirror image of the previous runner SAINTLY SINNER has had just 1 start for the 1 win which he ran a 69 sp in an easy maiden victory and had a start speed of 63. Her Game Dam is 5 time stakes winner and Grade c mare E STREET BAND who in turn was shemaled by the G grade AMERICAN DANCER. Coming from a stable with a 17% strike rate and with the vastly experienced F Neely in the saddle you would have to say that all things are pointing to a good performance. She will also sit about 4th or 5th and make a bold dash for victory at the 2 furlong pole.must be rated highly.

Here is a very slow starter but a very strong finisher, WOETTE’S WONDER has gone around twice for a win and a second at maiden and allowance company. Today is a step up in class and the ultimate test but goldeneye1 thinks she is up to the task. With sp’s of 71 and 73 I think she will need to improve a couple of lengths to win this but it can be done. S Gravina is in the saddle and considering he is a top jock he may know something about this horse that the public don’t so I must consider her a danger. Look for her to settle near last and rush home down the outside.

Rank outsider and she deserves that tag as she has only a 3rd from 3 starts and should be trying to find a nice maiden to win. Last start she came up against Lode of the Dance and got well and truly destroyed and I can’t see her turning the tables. N Stelle has taken the ride but unless the horse drinks 10 gallons of red bull before the race and grows wings she has not got a hope. Sorry jdawg02 but I call them as I see them.

Office High is another 3rd generation sim horse, she has had 2 starts for 2 wins coming from last on both occasions. Last start she finished with a nice sp of 76 and she got a 71 in her maiden, she has managed to overcome poor start speeds of 0 and 3 in both of those races and that suggests to me she may be good over longer distances. Her game dam is Grade b and G1 winner I’m high who went to the breeding barn for the first time with office wild to produce this young filly. I’m High’s Game dam was Grade g mare JOHNNY’S PROSPECTS who only produced 1 good horse I’m High. inhalers has done a fantastic job securing the services of L L Ahrens who has been in career best form since he and H Dudderar had a fight in the jockeys room over his windmill whip action. L L Ahrens won the fight his confidence has risen, and he is very confident of victory while H Dudderar has become the worst jockey and laughing stock of Vermont. If Office high can improve 2 lengths I think she can pick up victory and because L L Ahrens is riding she is my top pick.

Here is a good looking Brown filly looking to step up in class after a nice 2nd placing to Roys colt MOJAVE COUNTY in the freshman sire siries. With 1 win and a 2nd from 2 starts she looks the goods to me as both her runs so far have been against the colts, coming back to her own sex could prove to be a very big advantage. with a 68 sp in her maiden and a 74 last start you would think a slight improvement would give cashcall victory no 120. LIL SUMTIN FOR YA’s Game Dam is SISTER BINGO is a grade f mare that has not produced a good horse yet but could LIL SUMTIN FOR YA be the champion cashcall has been looking for? Very experienced C Wolff takes the ride which makes me confident she will be in the finish after taking a mid pack position during the race.

FORTY NINER x NUREYEV x CAVEAT 7/1
Already a G3 winner in her 3rd start Lode of the Dance is currently rated No2 in the division and has beaten a subsequent Grade 3 winner HOWDY CLOUD. Her last race was the only time she had to be extended and ended up running an sp of 77 beating VENGEFUL PRAYER in Arazona. Lode of the dance is the only runner produced so far for her game dam WINNINGFICATION who only had a G grade classification. The thing I find the most surprising is that L Owens got the mount as he is having a very tough time of late (there is a report that he is starting to be affected by animal activist H Dudderar), having only 2 winners in 43 rides. So the question must be asked did hornfrog3 forget to put in his jockey selections or does he believe Owens can get the job done. My opinion is that she must be a superstar to win this race with that jockey. Look for her to be racing mid pack.

JOHANNESBURG x CAPOTE’S PROSPECT x SEATTLE SLEW 31/1
A winner of 2 from 3 (the loss came on turf) Primetime Johan is trying to extend her winning streak to 3. After coming off a poor maiden start on turf she has not put a foot wrong sine in winning a maiden and then an allowance on dirt. After winning easy in her maiden where she only had a sp of 62 she came out at odds of 22/1 to win her allowance with a nice sp of 75 and is now looking to step up to take on the best 2yo fillies in the sim. PRIMETIME JOHAN’s game dam is B grade G1 winner POORLY VERIFY who has not really had any spacial offspring maybe that will change with PRIMETIME JOHAN. Underused M Stearns takes the mount for the pt89 stables and would be looking to settle the horse mid pack and make a storming run in the middle stages of the race.

In what looked to be a bit of a struggle MATUTA MATER won her maiden by a whisker with only an sp of 63 but then came out at her next start to win her first stakes race with a huge sp of 75. If she shows even more improvement I can’t see a reason to go against her. She comes from historical Grade e mare CLEVER GULCH who like so many of game dams being represented by there offspring in this race she has not had much success. Today she is being ridden by K Tusten probably because teaco forgot to put his jockey selections, but Tusten is confident that his mount has the ability to win and will place the filly mid pack trying to run down the front runners late in the stretch.

EXILE IN GUYVILLE

SPINNING WORLD x SEATTLE SLEW x FORTY NINER 8/1
This one comes from the same stable Bluegrass derby winner Virtuoso, she has had 2 wins from 2 starts and although she has only had sp’s of 67 and 68 she has yet to be tested the way she will be in this race today. EXILE IN GUYVILLE comes from the game dam CROOKED BUDA who is also the mother of Whip Smart (3/4 sister to EXILE IN GUYVILLE) to who just won the G1 Middle Flower Stake (The Nureyev x Seattle Slew x Forty Niner sire lines are working a treat). With blood like this it is no wonder super7 has so much confidence, he has managed to obtain the services of B Langhorne and is very happy going into such a tough race. Maybe a win here could help super7 secure some trainer of the year votes but failure is not the end either, because super7 has other up and comers such as GROWLING & EXILE IN GUYVILLE in the stable.

Wow This race brings up so many questions to which I can’t provide answers to, all I know is that the winner will could possibly go on to be the champion female dirt 2yo for the season (who knows) but if your horse losses today don’t be disheartened as they could go on later and win a derby.
