Ontario-CAN (ON) Sunday, October 12, 2014 — 3 PM EST | Race ID : 1234684 ******** THE LIZ TAYLOR ******** Grade I / Group 1 – Purse : $1,000,000 – 3 Years and Older Fillies and Mares 10 Furlongs | ~2000 Meters | One Mile and One Quarter Firm Turf
We travel to Woodbine race course outside Toronto, Canada for this year’s renewal of The Liz Taylor, a grade/group 1 event for 3 years and up fillies and mares. An international field of ten, including three 3 year old fillies, will compete over ten furlongs on what should be a firm turf course for the rich winner’s share of the one million dollar purse. The winning connections will star in the festive trophy celebrations that will immediately follow the race. Some Breeders Bowl contenders may come out of this affair, so let’s take a closer look at the runners in post position order and see if we can spotlight the contenders.
GUILD MASTERS IRE m92885 7/1 Light grey 4 year old has yet to reproduce this year her G1 – G2 winning form of last season. Hailing from the m92885 stables, this Mastercraftsman filly out of the sim-mare Sad To Go showed a little late foot when 7th in the G1 Friendly Wager at this trip last out. One back of that was an OK 6th in the G2 Hot Polly, also at 10 panels with a 104 SP# after a 3 month layoff. One prior was a never in it, last of 14 in the G3 Wild Orchid at a mile and a half, where she may have been injured and took that 3 months off. She will need to regain her 2013 form if we’re to see her storming down the stretch and contending here. Could surprise on best effort.
MONEY INDYSKY GER etonic 6/1 Trainer etonic sends out this brown, 4 year old Monsun filly out of the stakes-placed sim-mare Indy Jinsky, off an impressive, stretch running victory in the G2 Romanet at this distance, notching a 105 SP#. She was 2nd twice in a pair of ten panel listed stakes, earning 105 & 102 SP#’s in close to the pace, stalking trips. Was a stretch running winner at this distance one before that in a restricted allowance, posting a 105 SP#. G1 winner at two makes her first G1 appearance since August of last year. Seems like her best races lately are from off the pace, let’s see if the jock can get her to relax and make a big late run.
INSPECTOR KY titleist 9/2 Elder stateslady of this group is this brown 6 year old Street Cry mare from the G2 winning, quarter million dollar earning sim-mare Stormspector. She was a closing 5th last out in the G1 Cedra D at 9.5 furlongs, earning a 103 SP#. One back of that she was a close 3rd at 9.5 panels in the G3 Humble Handicap with 106 SP#. She won the Oil Academy listed stakes, also at 9.5 furlongs, one prior to that, earning a 109 SP#. Her better efforts seem to have come when close to the early pace; owner titleist would like to see her near the lead the first time down the stretch, and also the second time down the lane. Oddsmaker likes her chances, selecting her as the morning line favorite.
FIRST DEGREE BERN KY cajunbeat 6/1 Three year old, G1 Bluegrass Oak winner makes her first grade/group turf appearance. She won the Surf To Turf listed stakes at 9.5 furlongs last out, posting a 105 SP# in her first try on the weeds. Bay Bernardini scratch bred was an even 6th in the G1, 10 furlong Birmingham in one prior, earning a 104 SP#. She was overwhelmed by the boys at 12 panels in the G1 New Yorker before that, after having won the Oaks with a very nice 113 SP#. Stretch runner from the cajunbeat racing operation makes first try against elders, can threaten in the lane on best try.
CRIMINAL VENTURE KY futurestar 5/1 Settled for 4th last out in the G1 Personal Sign at this distance last out on the dirt, earning a 109 SP#. Chestnut four year old daughter of Dynaformer out of the grade 1 winning, million dollar earning sim-mare Dangerous Reward, was an OK 4th at 12 furlongs in the Erin Express listed stakes in her last turf try with a 97 SP#. One priorwas a good 2nd in the Alylouka listed at 11.5 panels, posting a 102 SP#. She had some success earlier in the year with an excellent 2nd in the G1 Equinics-Tipsheet Writers at 12 furlongs, and a win in the 11 panel Big Farcough Horse listed, with 106 & 107 SP#’s. Versatile runner from the futurestar barn will need an astute jockey ride to be in the stretch picture, oddsmaker likes her chances as the co-second choice in the morning line.
SI SE BUENO IRE desimster4 17/1 Second up of the three year olds is this bay Galileo lass out of the stakes placed sim-mare Si Se Puede. She just missed last out when 2nd in the Western Press listed stakes at 9.5 furlongs, notching a career best 105 SP#. One prior she was a never in it 9th in the G1 Irsh Oaks at 12 furlongs. One back of that she was a fast closing 2nd in the G1 Adelaide Oaks at 12 panels with a 93 SP#. She got up late for the win in the G2 Dana Trial at 11 furlongs one prior in her graded stakes debut, posting a 97 SP#. Stretch runner from the desimster 4 barn tries G1 company again, should be making up ground in the lane. Improving sort may be a live longshot facing her elders.
TRICKING FOR CANDY NM mtktoday 10/1 Bay four year old Chocolate Candy sweetie out of the sim-mare Beatific Vision, settled for 3rd last out with a strong stretch run in the Rude Stella listed stakes at 9 furlongs, earning a 105 SP#. One prior, she just missed when 2nd in a restricted allowance event, also at 9 panels, posting a 94 SP#. Lightly raced this year by trainer mtktoday, she makes her grade/group stakes debut here. She ended her 2013 campaign with a pair of wins (her last) at 9 furlongs. Adds a furlong in this event, should be coming late in the lane, can contend with repeat of last effort.
DANCER IMPACTUS JPN provolone 10/1 Returns to graded stakes company for the first time since last fall, when an uninspired 9th in the G1 Best Of Rome at rthis trip. She won the G1 Umited Oaks at this distance as a 3 year old. Chestnut 5 year old Deep Impact scratch-bred miss has won four of her last five, all at this trip, against lesser company than she faces here. She did earn a 105 SP# last out; has won at this distance numerous times. Provolone trainee seems up against it in this field, though any improvement off last could put her in the minor award mix.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS GER redhill22 5/1 Bay, scratch-bred Monsun filly exits the G3 Glen Is Falling at 11 furlongs, where she hung on for 3rd, earning a 105 SP#. One prior she fell back to 3rd after leading most of the way in the 12 panel Tangles listed stakes with a 103 SP#. Shw wired them in the Solar Storm listed at this trip, notching a 104 SP# in a snmall field. She won a pair of open allowances before that, with a 107 SP# at 10.5 furlongs the better of the two. Owner redhill22 hopes that her other efforts over this surface are not true indicators of her preference for it. She should be a factor in the early pace; speed on the lead is always dangerous and the oddsmaker seems to agree, making this one the co-second choice in the early odds.
REGAL LADY ENG kobras 7/1 Last but not least is our third 3 year old, a bay Makfi miss from the graded placed sim he-mare Turf Warrior. She was a late running 5th in the G2 Jersey City at 9 furlongs last out, posting a 102 SP#. One prior she was an excellent 2nd against her elders in the G1 Cedora D at 9.5 panels, scoring a 107 SP# while besting Inspedtor . She showed some late foot for 4th in the G1 United Oaks, earning a 106 SP#. Stretch runner from the kobras racing stable may have been a bit short last out after four straight G1 route efforts. Look for her to charging late down the lane, jusy may get there on top try.
